Right I should know what they are, but I’m just checking…
I’m 6’1 but completely disproportionately built so I’ve ghot a tiny dinky body and LONG legs “relatively speaking”. Basically it means even on on Kwak 9, my legs are still cramped up round me ears…
So…rear sets are where you put your feet right? You can get one’s in different positions can’t you to extend that leg space…right?
Anyone?
But, if not rear sets…what are they called, just so I know what to look for…TA.
aftermarket ones even in the furthest forward/down position for adjustables will be more aggressive than standard - they’re designed for the track, there isn’t a market for ones that reduce ground clearance (that i’ve seen).
potentially you could have someone knock up some spacers to move the pegs. alternatively you could try getting risers for your handlebars/clip ons so you could sit more upright and take pressure off your legs a bit. gripping the tank more than putting weight on your feet helps a bit too.
otherwise us tall guys have to wear it a bit. you should try a ducati 748 for comfort
Funnily enough both the lads coming to Assen with me are on 748’s. They reckon the same thing.
I had a look at the Gilles rear sets on Demon Tweeks…all the “alternative” positions for them would have brought my legs up and back…I want down and back…is that possible? I’m not racy enough to notice peg down stuff yet (called me semi-amateur)…
so essentially I’m looking for not more ground clearance but slightly less…is that possible or is that like asking whether a knife company makes “blunter” knives?
My 6’5" mate reckons the Aprilia Mille RSVR is perfect for the taller fella!
Beautiful bike too, but I’d rather you stay loyal to the Ninja family!
Try a 7r, not as severe a riding position - looks better, and if you get the 883cc kit, it’s as quick as a 9r anyway! Putting the 9r engine in adds extra weight, not what you want with a 7r.
pretty sure the answer is no to that buddy - they all lift. maybe have a word with Mike, he might be able to fabricate a spacer mount to drop the mount height to the frame. gilles are pretty expensive too - the attached are from diamond racing and only set me back 165. they’re great. actually thinking about it not sure if this would work but you might be able to switch the mount plates over from left to right so that they go down rather than up?
my mate has been shopping for bikes recently (he’s even bigger than me) and the older shape RSV isn’t bad but still pretty aggresive, defo more so than my r1 on standard pegs.
the 748 is blummin extreme - i traded an 04 r6 in for my 748 and then rode it from aylesbury down the a41. i thought i was doing a handstand! my lower back wasn’t all that chuffed with me to start with but after a while you get used to it. found it tricky to get my feet back on the pegs fully after changing gear etc under braking etc (stock rearsets tho).
fair enough…guess a set of numb toes which have to be amputated is probably easier and cheaper than choppin a great bike for an untried one…
I’m enjoying the Kwak for now…but I have to admit, its like Tommy Hill on the Yam’s…he’s lovin it, cos that’s all he’s ridden at that level…he may be loyal to Yam now, but give him a trial on a BSB Duke, Blade or even one of those nancy GSZR thingies ( ) and he’ll turn his back on the Yam in an instant…
I kinda feel that way about my Kwakker. Love her to bits, but I have a nagging feeling that if I get to ride a superior machine I’m gonna hate myself for spending so much time on this ole clunker…even though I do love her…
im 6ft3, and i got some gilles of ebay for £140 and fitted em myself, for my GSXR, best mod on the bike yet!
They have allowed me to have a lower position, and slightly more back, there is an even lower position but its slightly forward, meet feel like riding a Harley.
I can vouch for M9s rearsets tho, they look the biz!
Cheers guys.
Mick, when the powers that be realise the error of their ways and re-employ with an actual real-life salary…I’ll be onto like glue for some of them.
Can you PM me some costs for parts and labour mate so I know what I’m aiming for. PLus any of that extra stuff I’d need to decide on like colours or particular models or anything.
She’s a very stubbon but beautiful 2000 ZX-9R (E1) in blue
