rear axle nut come off

Hi guys,

I’m doing a trip through Europe on my cbr 600 RR and in Sarajevo. I hit a big bump in the road on my front so had a quick glance and everything looked ok, but about 10 mins later, luckily at a traffic light, I thought I hit another bump after a hoot from a trucker I pulled over and my rear wheel was hanging and the bolt was out and the wheel squashed to my swing arm. All by myself out here in Bosnia, managed get it ro the one and only yamaha shop after a few taxi rides acnd language challenges but desperate for some conversation and thoughts on what happened. They won’t look at it until monday so I’m stuck here.

I’ll hazard a guess at ‘it worked loose’! Do those bikes have a R clip to prevent the nut from undoing? If yours didn’t, is it meant to?

Crikey I would have thought the forwards pressure of the chain would have kept the spindle in place even if the nut fell off.

Didn’t the rear feel funny at all?

So now is a good time for the R Clip mod me thinks, good luck out there

No theres no clips or pins to hold the bolt in place on these bikes, just set it to the specified torque, which ill always be doing with mine after reading this!!

This happened to me with my car, many years ago when I was new to driving, and decided to swap my wheels around.

The experience resulted in my acquisition of a torque wrench very shortly afterwards :hehe:

Who was the last person to tighten your axle nut?

I’d be getting someone to drill a hole for an R clip and getting a castle nut if I had one of those then

hope the repair went well but if you need any help with language etc just give me a call (I’ll PM you my number) and I’ll try and help - I’m Bosnian. In the meantime if you need any suggestions re: food whilst in Sarajevo, just read this

good luck

Wow – Sarajevo on a CBR – impressive! Amazing place, hope you’re enjoying it. Was there a few years back and if memory serves the number of speed traps was ridiculous due to converting soldiers into police post Dayton. Hope the numbers have reduced, and that you’re not pulled! Pretty awful roads too in places. Good luck in fixing wheel issue.
