Rattling noise from front sprocket

When taking off from a stop or moving from a slow speed on my R1, I hear a bit of a rattling noise coming from the front sprocket.

This is weird…The chain is adjusted and lubed correctly, but I think it may be the original one frim new.

The bike has only done just less than 9500 miles though

Am I looking at a new chain and sprockets?

I had the same thing on my CBR and was told it was the clip holding the front sprocket. Or something like that i was in need of a new set though. Hope that helps.

Thanks mate.

Have a check to see if front sprocket is all there maybe a broken tooth If it does need replacing remember to do it as a set.

Could be the nut securing the sprocket. Yamaha Fazers suffered that problem in the past. In those cases (pre-'04) the nut was too weak or the thread to fine for the torque.

I’d check the nut and the washer immediately.

If the nut is loose can I just loctite it?

Couldn’t say for sure, but it depends on the state of the thread. If that is worn out, it might need to be re-cut (? ze bl**dy word is missing in mi wokabulary ).

Normally the nut is secured with a washer and tightened using a torque wrench. Don’t know what Yamaha thinks about loctite, I’d probably refer it to a competent garage if in doubt.

Deffo check that front sprocket nut is tight before you ride again if you can!

As krauto said, Yamaha had a service warning bulletin regarding this on certain yammy models.

Loctite it too if ya want.
