Raised straight bar conversion on sv650s? Scorch maybe?

So i’ve been thinking overnight.

The gladius is realistically too expensive for what I want to pay for first bike.

It has no fairings.

The SV650s has the exact same engine essentially so now I’ve test ridden the Gladius the ride of the Sv should be very similar right?

I saw an sv at a dealer in Romford yesterday with a half fairing and the previous owner had converted the bars to a straight bar and raised it up.

Is this a relatively simple job? i’m sure Scorch would be all over this easily.

Would the steering then feel very similar to the Gladius?

If the answer is yes to all of the above I’m sorted!

Has anyone done this or have an sv with the converted bars?

Thanks for any info!

You’re Barred has an Sv650, to which I have fitted a pair of grumbly end cans and Renthal bars.

Schweet, i’m excited now!

You’re barred - if you do see this, I’d love to see your bike and have a sit on it if you’re in or around London somewhere?

I’m gonna start shopping for a half faired sv now

cousin has exactly this, rides a lot nicer than any of the sports bikes. feet are a fair chop back but then i’m used to sumo / enduro. he bought it with the renthal bars, currently in the process of changing the front forks to R1 forks IIRC.

lots of bottom end bang, thing takes off like a bullet from the barrel of a 44 magnum.

easy enough i reckon, i dont see why anyone would put straight bars on and then raise em up, putting staright bars on is to lower the stance a little.

I don’t think she means ‘straight’ bars mate, just one continuous bar on risers rather than the supplied clip ons.

Well the Galdius is relatively similar to the naked SV650, I’ve not tried one but the write-ups say it has better suspension which gives a better ride but it’s also bit heavier, with steel frame not alloy, which could be a disadvantage.

Do you mean the Romford bike was a SV650S and had the clip-ons removed and replaced with naked SV650 type bars?
You would need to change the top yoke and probably several other bits.
Not sure why anyone would want to do that, but that’s just me :stuck_out_tongue:
I found the standard bars on the naked SV650 had me riding sit up and beg, i.e. way too high.
So I got M&P universal drag bars for less than £20 and fitted them angled down.
Not as dropped as the clip-ons on the SV650S but a much improved riding position and no need to change the top yoke.
I’ll dig out photo later.

Yeah exactly, he’s removed the clip ons and put a standard bar on it and raised it up for a different riding position.

To be honest, i’m starting to think I’ll sit on the SV650s and hopefully test ride the one I’m looking at and realise the clip ons are going to be fine ha

Yes MetalRed much prefers clip-ons. You can compare them on Sat at Llloyd Coopers.

Found pic…

yeah i thought straight/drag bars but didnt realise clip ons were standard.
i see now, lol.

if anyone wants sort of clip on stance but higher try thr m bars by norman hyde, a lot pf people use em on the new triumphs and they do 7/8 and 1" size too

Would this be the type of upright stance you speak of

Hahaha! Yeah yeah Art, I’ve already had my best friend draw and send me the following picture upon mention of changing the bars. Needless to say I’ m going to stop being such a pussy and give the clip ons a shot for a while haha

Do we now refer to you as ‘Donk’?

No you do not! Haha i hate that nickname, I’m sure you know where it’s from ha

Now I get it, my favourite film(s)

Just Google searched it, it means girl with a big butt.

That’s not nice :frowning:

oh ha this nickname actually came from a character in crocodile dundee - my Australian accent is a constant source of amusement for my friend.

of course it is Donk…oops Lozza i mean
