Personally I prefer race shift. Nothing to do with speed, but it makes more sense to my warped brain. I also find it easier for clutchless upshifts.
Whatever you do, stick with one thing. I still have to fit rearsets to my 'blade and consequently am running road pattern (you cannot reverse the selector on an 06 'blade). In the last session at Brands on Monday (my 1st trackday of the year), I was too tired to think straight and could not remember which way was up the box or vice versa. Needless to say, I left the session early.
On some tracks with tight lefts, raceshift also saves having to hook your boot under the lever when coming out of the corner and still leant over some way
yeeash, you went grass tracking or tarmac surfing Marc?
know what you mean adz. guess if its better, i’ll do it all bikes going foward. have found at clark curve i could have done with the down config to be able to up the gear as it was too much of a reach to get my toe under the selector.
the change of rearset isn’t 100% voluntary, had a cager decide he wanted to be cosy… I’ve bent the stocker back into place, but its not perfect. if i’m going to have to spend money, want to get something better rather than replace with the same.
looked at a few of the rearsets for the r1, and most appear to only have a gp selector (and the rod goes outside the frame on some rather than thru it like the stock or gilles). price ranges massively too. not sure which have the road gear for the brake light tho?
Thankfully neither, I voluntarily left before it went wrong. Switching into 2nd instead of 4th coming out of Clarke Curve was fairly exciting, certainly more so than 4th around Druids!
The Gilles rearsets have the rear brake connection with them.
Look out for GBMoto rearsets as well. Friend of B’s makes em, seem good quality as well. B uses them day in day out at the track. Fair bit cheaper than qouted above.
blimey, the peeps at diamond are quick off the mark - they arrived this morning before i left for work!!
just fitted them with Jonesy’s help (cheers again for that mate, would have struggled on my billy).
couple of bits that you have to work out - connection of rod position to the gear linkage is slightly unusual given where they connect to the gear lever (nothing wrong with it that way, just different). The spacers weren’t quite right for the rod (would rub given what was provided). used a nut and washer off the stock gear to increase the spacing a bit altho may get adjust it further - need to work out if they’re at the right height anyway so will no doubt be playing with 'em.
look the nuts tho, and the grip from the knurling is a big improvement on stock. big thumbs up on the customer service, very helpful, not to mention the rapid delivery!
and of course, they’re black so they’re nice and matching
thanks fella. yeah, want to do the hoses soon - partly for tart value but more importantly they’ll allow adjustment of brake lever to angle it down - the stock setup can only do that on the clutch side
