Sorry to trouble you, I was wondering if someone might be able to offer a newb a little advice??
My new R6 (06 plate) seems to be running rather hot. Usually sits at around 86 degrees C when it’s good but when I’m pootling along in London (red lights etc) it’s sometimes hitting 103+ degrees C & I can hear the fans kicking in to cool it down…
I was just wondering, is this normal for an R6? - On my 125 it never seemed to get that hot, though I do appreciate the engine size difference here…
I just want to make sure it’s not going to overheat & leave me in the lurch I guess.
Ive had it higher. ideally its ok. Make sure the coolant has been changed in last big service. I think over 107 it has a warning light and error code. Switch it off and leave it fully to cool. I never had to do it though. I found the clutch starts to slip if your getting really close!!
You should be fine. Just make more noise through exhaust to drown out fan!
Cool (get it! ) Check www.r6ers.co.uk I think im still a mod…look out for LewisR6…Good site for R6ers. Rubbish for KTM’s…hence why i dont go on there much…
My R6 (08) from new when it hits 100 the fans comes on and blows all the hot air toward my upper chest. Lovely on cold days, a killer on hot days. Once again check your coolant.
My cbr600rr normally runs about 82-86 if i keep riding during daytime, 76-80 when riding dual carriage way in the evening with 40 miles/h above, but when there is traffic in central london, its always 95 above, fan kicks in at 104, but it jus slows down the temperature raising, doesnt stop it or lowered it, so I think you jus need to keep moving, well…thats wut sports bike design for…according my bike instructor, bike doesnt design to sit still like cars, coz smaller radiator and smaller fan.
Back in end of May, really hot lunchtime i stuck in the traffic sit there n wait, the temperature went up to 112 after a while…so i pulled over n stop let it cool.
Every sports bike I rode is jus hot like hell…fireblade, R1, gixxer…
Imagine how hot ur legs are when riding a R1 at lunchtime in China (weather is 39 degree) sitting at red light waiting for 99 seconds…:w00t: I got light burned on the inside of my leg after…:crying:
