R6 Race Fairings...

Just about to buy these Race Fairings as I’m looking to do some track days in the near future!

Does anybody know anyone who does paint jobs? I sorta want it to look like the Virgin R6 Cup bikes but with my own little design instead of ‘Virgins’…

Nice Hennessy, though have you thought about transportation? I.E. how will you get your bike to the track in race trim, without headlights or indicators, plate bracket, etc. If you have a trailer and a car, or a van, then perfect, otherwise it’s you have a logistical problem on your hands

An alternative route is just to leave the fairings for the time-being, and do some trackdays, get a feel for it, and then if you decide you want to up your game and really get into it, then look at some fairings. You run a minimal risk of having a problem when starting out, as you’ll be taking it easy, ridingly well within your limits (as every should do anyhow at the track). I personally have never run track fairings and do a lot of trackdays.

The key is to have confidence in your abibility to have fun, but remain safe, as long as you do this, you will have no problems. It’s only those who are completely ignorant to how trackdays work, or are not good riders in the first place, who crash whilst starting out.

Either way, you’re going to love it at the track, it’s simply the best place to ride your bike! I would gladly give up using a sportsbike on the road if I could ride trackdays more frequently, and in more comfort than I do now.

Great points Jay!

My mate Paul whom is starting Track again will have a Bike Van and a specific spot for me! So headlights and that are something I need not worry about. Although I have heard you can get Daytime MOT’s which allows you to ride your bike in daylight hours without Headlights so long as it passes MOT obviously.

I know that the possibility of me crashing are slim to none, however for £200 for race fairings I can’t go wrong. Including that I want to do it for MY purposes and not just for track days. When I decide to get another bike, I will solely use my R6 as a track bike! And the point of it looking absolutely incredible!!! And my own, as a paint job and as a bike!

It’s something I’ve always wanted to get into ever since I stopped MotoX… I feel so jealous everytime I hear you goin to a track day or anyone for that matter! As the opportunity has arrised with obviously a van being free and a buddy along side me its been on my mind ever since… And anyhoo, what else do I have my money to spend on?

Nice one man. I have only done one track day and that was the Ron Haslam day at Donnington. I was too scared to use my own bike so I used one of his. I did that when I was 17 and ever since then I have promied myself another one. I loved it but still too scared of trashing me own bike.

Go for it mate have lots of fun and post lots of pics.

Sounds like the right attitude to me, nice one fella. You could paint the fairings yourself if you weren’t bothered about having a top-grade paintjob, i.e. it’s very easy to prime the surface and apply a few coats, then laquer it. You can do it in a (well ventilated) garage in a weekend. Matt-black is a common favourite

Thanks, yea I’ve thought of doing that but somehow won’t be the same. And I’m kind of a perfectionist when it comes to looks and appearance, especially bikes. So I think I’m guna get them professionally done somewhere… I’ll get a blueprint and create some styles myself for what I want it to look like. The fairings are already base coated so an easy start but its something that will take some time so its a project going to be ready next year sometime…

Something like that but obviously ‘Parker’ and number 1… create my own logo and so forth, working progress at the minute on what I want but would like any suggestions if anyone has any? does Mike (m9performance) do paint??

suggestions… you asked for it…

Good on you. Race plastic is so much cheaper than the standard stuff isnt it. As for paint jobs, I have a mate who does basic spray work which is fine for a race bike, you just put stickers on afterwards to make it into what you like. Have not spoken to him for a while but I need him to spray up two sets of fairings for me. I am not going mad with the paint job, I am likely to damage the panels. Hopefully by only scraping the bodywork on the ground when cornering but as I shall be racing, who knows.

I was going for the get it posted within 5 seconds idea… But yea, looks like you know about the pink idea…

Thats cool Chuffster, Would you kindly ask him how much it would be to paint the fairings in the pics that I put up, in Yamaha Racing Red, and the white overcoat on the tail unit… and maybe a custom logo because a won’t be able to get stickers for that. I will get number boards for the front so it needn’t be painted. just to get a ruff estimate?#

Mine took me two seconds as well Steve, lol

I hav’nt spoken to him in a few days but can ask him for a quote if you’d like, he sprays cars for a living, but I’m sure he could do something basic on a bike… Ill show my dad the photos when I get home tonight.
