Did a track day yesterday at brands hatch, the full GP circuit, and bloody excellent it was too. Well up until I came off at Sheene corner. I was going good overtaking a few, thought I was Rossi trying to overtake somebody, went passed them but was carrying to much speed.
Onto the grass, then started to slide about, then lost it just before the gravel trap. I landed on my right side then did quite a few rolls when I saw my bike nose to tail, destroying itself.
After 30 mins in the medi centre I was to be reunited with my bike back at the pits. One of my caring friends had already put a for sale, low milage sign on the bike!
Well I havn’t got a panel, tail section, nor nose cone and can left, and a chunk out of the front wheel. oh, and the bank of carbs came off too.
Luckily some of my friends had hired 3 track bikes from PR track bike hire, and Paul from PR hire, with a bit of help from James at Setup Engineering spent the next four hours striping the bike apart, bending back into place and putting the parts back on to enable me to ride slowly the bike home, so a big shout out to Paul from PR track bike hire.
As only two of the race bikes were being used, and with the help of adrenalin, strong pain killers and some pasta I ran around on the third R6 track bike for the rest of the afternoon with the advantage of super sticky tyres and the use of tyre warmers. This made the day so different from seeing my mates buzzing around the track, while looking at my broken baby.
I can’t face seeing my baby all broken up in the garage at the mo, plus I can barely walk or breathe/cough/laugh without it hurting today.
Suppose I should feel lucky I didn’t break anything (bones) or bend the frame, apart from the tail section, so I’m hoping by next summer i will have her ready for a bit of the same, but without the crashing!
Oh and a sorry goes out to GARETHRUISLIP as I was going to get the bike serviced with him soon, which now isnt at the top of my list.
Bummer, know what ya feel like dude. Binned my bike at Brands last year. Was quite badly bashed up, me more so then the bike. Had to collect the bike from a mates place who lived just round the corner from the track a week later. Ah the pain… Track days are EEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeevil!! Just say no… Hope its sorted soon.
Bad news Paul, Sheene Curve catches so many riders out, its a tricky one. Hope you dont have to wait till next year to get back on the
road…glad it hasn`t put you off track riding.
See you out on track soon…and if you need any help let me know.
Sorry to hear bout the damage Mrgee.
You’re still in one piece, live to fight another day eh…
I heard from Bob Collins who was at Brands Hatch that it was a good day to be down otherwise…
Damn MrGee! So sorry to hear about your R1! Have you thought about making it a track-bike and getting another road-bike? Could be a good opportunity with time to save cash over the winter? Either way, keep us informed please. Got pics of the R1?
That’s the way it goes Jay! I haven’t got the money to buy another bike and keep the R1. A mate of mine offered me £2500 for it so I’m thinking of taking the money and running. Iv’e been in PM’s with GARETHRUISLIP on him getting it on a jig and checking her over, but the £2500 looks tempting now.
