R1 first ride of the year.

Out testing the R1 today, fitted new Brake pads, stainless steel hoses, new exup cables. It was cold today, but my Kies heated jacket and heated insoles worked a treat. The mods done to brakes are a big improvement. If anyone has an R1 check your Exup cable setup, I guarantee its way off the marks, they never seem to do it on a service, even on the PDI. Its really easy to do.

Met a couple of nice police officers too. The Road Angel II radar detector did its job. You need an edge in these days of high tech unmarked vehicles, observation is not enough now, the video equipment is no longer visible on the windscreen, but built into the dash (Colour too).

Will fit the decat pipe and standard pipes with race baffles soon. I need to get used to the speed again. These bikes are so easy to ride fast, plenty of adrenaline flowing. I should be taking it easy at my age.

Hope you are all having a great day, stay safe.

Yeah - been meaning to take a peak at the exup valve/cables on my Thunderace to check that everything is hunky dory (don’t think it’s seized or anything as no flat spots anywhere) - but seeing as I have spent a lot of time recently rebuilding calipers, fitting brake lines and replacing fork seals I would really rather spend some time actually out on the bike rather than in the garage all the time! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m in ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ mode regarding the exup - but I might take a peak in a month or two.

Changed my EXUP when I rebuilt my R1 and the cable was fraying badly.

Easy and cheap to sort.

Like I said in your newbie post, try sticking on some Velocity Stacks. The improvement in the intake noise alone makes them nice, let alone the 5 BHP increase in the mid range when the bike has been mapped properly.

Lovely…I miss the sound of an R1 with open race pipes
