Have had these since the MCN bike show and have to chuck in my negative 2c.
Cold, cold cold. They absolutely do not warm up to an acceptable level ever. I’ve had them replace the controller unit assuming that that was the issue, and the problem persists. The left grip wore through to the elements within 4 months of light use. This allowed to me to actually look at the heating elements inside, and shock horror theres one single wire that wraps around the inside of the grip 4-6 times. I don’t understand how a design like this could ever heat up the rubber to any sort of acceptable temperature.
This reminds me, RIDE magazine reviews are not to be trusted. Spada Enforcer gloves are definitely not waterproof to the extent that they say and these R and G grips are nothing but cheap rubbish. I feel ripped off even though I got them free when buying some crash protection.
I had the same ones on… First pair I fitted I bodged on and fecked the left one (at least that’s what I assumed at the time)
Second pair stopped working probably because of the controller unit at around the 14month mark
Now have Tucano Urbano muffs and don’t have to worry about cold hands… Riding today with my Spada Enforcers and hands were perfectly toasty. And also dry when it rains.
Gerbing heated gloves, heat your whole hand (very warm even before turning them on) water proof (to a point but treated with nikwax and all is good) and it means no horrible square box stuck to your bike and can take them to your next bike - no need for grips anymore in my opinion!
I have had grips fitted three times, each time they have failed very quickly, within weeks. Either the controller has failed or the coil in the crip itself has failed. None were R and G, but frankly, I just wouldn’t fit grips again. I am a fan of the Gerbing gloves instead, although i only wear them o nthe coldest days. When it is over about 4c I wear Spada Enforcers. My pair has been worn for well over two years in all weathers as a daily commuter and they have never ever leaked.
I’ve had Oxford’s and Daytona’s before and they were both decent, Oxfords probably more so. Daytona grips have a ‘start’ function which gets them really hot, really quickly, so I’d basically cycle between that and ‘on’ as needed to regulate the heat for myself. Had no problems with either of them…
R&G Grips are shocking. Terrible. Don’t buy them. I had one set they got WARM not hot… They were so bad I took them off and took them back. I spoke to R&G and of course they gave me the old we don’t want to admit they are rubbish and this is the first time someone has complained. Infact they said “we have sold hundreds and have never had any back” anyone who says that has had loads back…
Daytona grips are very good quality,I found with the daytona grips that on Start they are very very hot and as soon as you turn them to ON they are not as hot. I used to leave mine on start on really cold days.
Oxford Sports Grips are the best for heat I think as they have the heat controller box and you can turn the heat up and down unlike the daytona ones.
