quit smoking

How long has it been since you started the process of quitting ?

I commend your efforts…cant imagine what it is like as I have never been addicted to anything like that…but i also do feel that for some it is a great pleasure to smoke so why stop ?. Okay you may get lung cancer or emphasiema or something when your older but we all have to go some time…and if we get there without pleasure what a sad way to live…I would hate to give up the things I love, no matter they are good or bad for me…

I know its not politically correct to say this but why give up if you enjoy it?

I started last a week ago Sunday. I have bought two packets of 10, and bummed a couple of friends.

Why stop smoking? Being breathless on occasions does not help, it is extremely expensive (a 20 a day habit will cost you over £2200 a year), and the risks of heart disease and cancer are hugely increased.

Why give up?

Well kids, health, cost and not being treated like a social outcast were enough reasons for me. Oh yes and I don’t smell anymore and I don’t cough up enough tarmac to fill a small pothole anymore.:D:D:D

You just have to really WANT to give up.

yep thats my reason  have better things in my life than a box of smokes:cool:

today was 1st day back at work as a non smoker & strangly did not find it as hard as i thought i would. i did not avoid the smoking area just sat there with mates and had a laugh & cup’a.

thanks for your comments ppl:cool: and good luck to all stopping too

I gave up 4 yrs ago.

Well, to be honest I first gave up in the early eighties and countless times since then - sometimes for several months, but this time it’s lasted 4 yrs and I feel I’ve cracked it.

Before I gave up smoking this time I talked to a good few people who had given up for at least 5 years and noticed they all done it without any aids. They all said it’s a state of mind and once your head accepts your not going to have another fag - no matter what - the cravings get weaker.

Once I got into that mindset, I found it relatively easy.

Just over 5 years. Found the first four days absolute hell  but dead easy after that

So stick with it - will save you a fortune and make you much healthier:)

Good luck

i quit once…for 4 hours…:stuck_out_tongue:

i was in a court room tho…jury service! honest!!

Keith Floyd had the right idea.

Well done Dhofts !! Keep up the good work I say:)

Well - how to stay off them - I suppose you could always amputate both your hands, as it’s more difficult to light up with two bandaged stumps… failing that (bit extreme I know) … will power mate!

I have also given up too since arriving on these shores. I was on about 500 a day in my last weeks in Afghanistan, but since being in Blighty - not even a craving. So I’ll keep an eye on your progress and we shall beat the habit.

Good luck!

just a quick update:)

almost a week off the smokes now. its going better than i thought really, been using patches most of the week but did mis using one mid week & tbh the day was no different without it:cool: once i have used the last 2 patches i’ll go it without them.

I stopped just over a week ago … still going strong. Not doing any nicotine substitute.

I think I would have kept that last bit quiet…

The best thing about quitting smoking, which i did in April, is the relapse, which I had three weeks ago for a week. God, roll ups taste lovely after a 6 month break. Now back off them though, as I went off the taste again after a week. And I’m proud of meself :stuck_out_tongue: No substitutes for me, just good ol fashioned hard nosed beligerence and mood swings!

haha how did i mis that:hehe:

Kevsta (21/09/2009) I started last a week ago Sunday. I have bought two packets of 10, and bummed a couple of friends…

Well done all you quitters

That’s the drugs for you.

Stick with the good work fellas (well, apart from all the backdoor shenanigans)

well 2 weeks now and doing very well:) went for one pint after work friday and did have 1 smoke but did not even smoke half of it as it made me eel sick:sick: all seems good so did not buy the next stage patches as i feel i can go on without them

how’s are the rest you ppl doing off the smokes?

I’m sweet dude - off the tablets now and all good :DWell done on not persevering with the half you smoked - remember we all perservered on the first few so its easy to do - keep at it

Hey, i quit just over 3 weeks ago - after reading Allen Carr’s book (albeit for the 3rd time!!) Going strong - few wobbly moments but haven’t succumbed even with Rioting Rob offering me fags at BM this week (you B*****D, you’re just jealous :D:D) Feel so much better, more energy, no coughing, fresh breath, don’t smell etc etc… Good to hear of so many others quitting the evil weed. Congrats to all of us
