quit smoking

well stopped smoking yesterday on the way home from work:w00t: but getting the cravings once sitting around in doors. been keeping busy and thats ok. i’m on niquitin 24 hour patches for 7 days and will likely get the next stage patches after that.

i have stopped a few times in the past, longest was 4years & tbh found it easy to stop then. now i’m finding it a lot more hard to stay off them:crying: only been a day off them so will see how it goes:)

anyone else stopped lately or been off them for a while now?

I can go without ciggies for a long period - but i find if I’m doing a job that is a bit stressful - then i buy a bit of tobacco at the end of the week (Friday night) and have a few roll ups as a ‘reward’ and to unwind. To ensure that i don’t smoke the whole weekend I flush the tobacco down the loo after I’ve had a few smokes. i then repeat the exercise the next friday having gone a week without tobacco.

When the stress dies down i can go wthout ciggies for months.

p.s. if anyone wants this tobacco give me your address and i’ll mail it to you so it don’t go to waste.

Am I mad?

Have a word with Stevie Ramone for his secrets - I believe his attempt at giving up is going better than his attempt at passing module 1!

harsh:D

I’ve been off the fags for 3 years now and you can do it.

I found that gum helped loads, like when you need to spark up whether you’re in a mood, or whether its a part of routine, I always used chew gum until “that feeling” went away. It was a bonus too cos fresh breath is a a good thing to have!

Daz I’m sure you’ll be able to do it and its always mind over matter!!

Good luck

thanks lou:)

was looking at this but would feel embarrassed:hehe:

You better get one of those luvvie or you’ll need to go the gym cos you’ll end up a little porker:w00t: stopping smoking nearly always leads to weight gain:P

nah i’m naturally fit:P

I’ve been off them for just over 2 years now, after smoking for 17 years! I used Zyban, which is a pill that you take every day for 6 weeks. It’s weird, as I now feel like I’ve never smoked!

Good luck mate!

Hi, I’m Terry-Moto and I’m a…f*ck wrong meeting

I smoked from when I was 9

Just reached 6 months, longest I’ve done. Do the whole course of the patches Mate, they worked for me

But true lolzI tried a few times and I’m normally like a serial killer in need of a victim without a fag…Been smoke free for about 2 months now (see my sig for actual time). This is what normally happens:NRTDon’t like nicotine replacement for a few reasons, mainly based around the fact you ain’t quitting, you are changing the delivery method:Patches - I’m hairy so they fall off. They make me sore, itchy and irritable. I swweat - they fall off.

Because I’m still nicotine dependent, what do I do when they fall off? Smoke a fag. FAIL!
Inhalator. Just like smoking a fag. So why don’t I smoke a fag? I smoke a fag. FAIL!
Lozenges and microtabs. Taste like crap, hard to get the right amount of nicotine at any given moment in time. What works better than this? Oh yeah - fags! FAIL!Cold Turkey

Slooowly kill some small animals. Rabbits, frogs… that sort of thing. Eat a shed load, drink a shed load, fabricate an argument with my other half so I can use it as an excuse to go out and have a fag anyway - should have just done that in the first place and saved my missus a lot of hassle. Oh, and the bunnies would have died a natural death and ended up as roadkill.

And Now?

Champix. Got it on scrip from the docs, no withdrawal, no craving, no dead bunnies.

2 months smoke free.

It fires the same receptors in your brain that nicotine does, so you slowly lose interest in smoking. I took the tablets for 11 days, then stopped smoking and carried on with the tablets - have been forgetting to take the tablets lately and don’t want a fag whether I take them or not.

Its a 12 week course of tablets, got me off fags for the price of 3 prescriptions. I saw the nurse at my GP’s surgery for it, but some places farm out the service to local chemists.

I’ve recycled the £6 (20 fags) a day into a separate account - its paying for the first 4 hours tattoo work this Friday (£300) and if I leave the cash in an account for 2 years, I could buy a Speed Triple.

Good luck whatever you do dude, but its worth asking the question

and if I leave the cash in an account for 2 years, I could buy a Speed Triple. But whats the point? Passing your test could take a decade or more and in that time you could learn how to train Tigers to **** on a mat.

Just let yer Misses take the test to save some time then she can take yer pillion styliee:) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MrH3-F82D0&feature=related

cheers stevie R:)

true the patches aint getting you off nicotine but if they can get me to stop wanting a packet of smokes then that will be great. it the times after eating or having a cup’a thats going to be hard:crazy: maybe i’ll go doctors tomorrow and ask about other options:)

Anne-marie used these last time she tried to quit, they look silly but if you use them when at home, i think she found them helpful. i’m not sure substitutes help, they are still putting the stuff in your system.
I quit years ago by going cold turkey, and never wanted to smoke since. i did it by building new habits, like everytime i wanted a fag, i would go for a 5 minute walk with the dog, or get up and do the washing up etc… Also, i kept seeing the waking part of the day in segments. I split the time i was awake in 20, and got through each segment. It seemed easier than days/weeks.
Good luck with it, you’ll feel better eventually, and hopefully stay off em this time.

I gave up smoking in 1997 and still miss it.

Is that how Julie takes you? ;):P:D

I’ve been smoke free for over 5 years now. I got hypnotised and used the inhalater to help break the physical habit of smoking. When I analysed it, although I smoked 20 a day (more if drinking) I actually only really enjoyed 5. 1st and last of the day and after meals. I didn’t find using the inhalater embarassing, I made a joke of it with my smoking friends.

I haven’t even wanted a cigarette since stopping and am one of those awful ex smokers who hates to be around smoke, lol.

I packed them in about 10 years ago, after smoking for 10 years, was on approx 20 a day.

Tried and failed a few times (I wasn’t a nice person to be around during those attempts!) then I read a book called ‘Alan Carrs Easy Way To Stop Smoking’ which changes the whole way you think about smoking. Finished the book, stopped smoking and that was that !

Didn’t sleep properly for a few days though when I stopped, so I suggest some Nytol.

Hate smoke now though !

PMSL!

The patches are a method of reducing your nicotine intake in a controlled fashion. Although Nicotine itself is extremely toxic, the minimum amount to kill a human is 40mg. Which is one reason you shouldn’t mix patches with any other form of nicotine intake. But cigarette smoke also contains Carbon Monoxide, Benzene, Tar, and several thousand other hazardous chemicals. So despite the continued Nicotine intake, you are removing all the other carcinogens.

Currently on Patches at the moment, although I have had a couple of smokes in the last ten days it is generally working. Not had any since Thursday.

Keep at it Daz.
