Quickest Way In from Harrow Area

This morning was my first commute from my home in Pinner to work at Fleet St. My natural route was to use the A40/A501/Holborn but I am wondering if I would be quicker avoiding the A40. I could possibly take the A404 to Notting Hill-ish and jump on the last bit of the A40/A501 there. Does anyone else do this journey and have any opinions on the level of traffic etc on the alternative routes?

Thanks!

I don’t know, but it might be worth mentioning what type of bike you are riding - I know I would go different routes depending on if I was riding my scooter or my 550 bike, side roads and little annoying roads the scooter is king, A roads/motorways big bike.

It’s an BMW F800GS so not a small bike…

Best thing is to try one for a week then try the other. The A40 is a bit of a mare in the morning, seems to be narrow enough for cars but not really enough for filtering. Reckon the 404 might be easier, I prefer a safer ride than a slightly quicker one

Tried the A41 yet? I used to drive to Hampstead from Northwood direction via stanmore/edgware etc and found it faster on four wheels than the A40/A406.

I commute in to Putney via the A40 now, in to East Acton then head down to Hammersmith. You’re pretty much filtering from the Ruislip turnoff onwards (8am onwards). Leave earlier and you’ll get a lot further without having to filter.

Depends on what time you ride in.

If before 06.30 try A406, A5, then Marylebone Road

If after 07.00 try A406, A41 then through Camden and up to Euston Station. Lots of bus lanes to use

if you are in pinner then go down the uxbridge road to stanmore and get on the a41 to baker street

much safer than squeezing down the middle of cars on the a40
