I’ve got the same case but don’t use the rain cover, as you said the phone is meant to be waterproof. Been considering this new mount with wireless charging built in. Very convenient!
@Vaughny, daily use the case works well and I’ve had a few drops on concrete and wood floors, phone is in good shape.
Vibration damage is a new one. I’m not a daily rider but i assume it doesn’t take much vibration to cause this damage! Have been using my phone mount on handlebar for 100s of miles so i must be lucky so far, camera still work ok.
I don’t mount my phone on my bikes anymore
It was reasonably fine on my fully faired bikes
But not on my open bike
I’ve seen it a few times where scrots walk up at traffic lights and grab the phone and rip it off the bike
The vibration dampener kit arrived recently so have just installed it, along with the rubber grommet kit they also sent out for free after complaints of the USB-C cable getting some water ingestion in rain conditions.
The dampener feels high quality and is easy to install.
One thing that I noticed was that I had to position the wireless charging head a specific way to enable you to plug and unplug the cable easily (see pics) without the rest of the mounting arm gear from interfering with it.
One piece of feedback I would like to give Quad Lock is the wireless charging head needs an on/off switch as it is always on, and in my case as the lead is wired direct to my battery that means it’s always drawing power and showing the blue light. The only way to preserve your battery is to unplug the cable which isn’t ideal. A small on/off switch would be better.
I’m trying to get hold of the wireless charger, according to the website they’ve stopped selling it while they upgrade from the first revision.
In terms of always being on could you possible wire the charger inline with something like a headlight or other circuit that’s only energised once the ignition is on?
Did the size of the vibration dampener affect where you could position the arm?
Yes the electrical source could be changed but I asked my dealer to install it from new so am loath to change it as their work is warrantied. I’ll have to see what the experience of plugging/unplugging is like on the road before making a decision.
The vibration damper uses the standard notched circular mounting system so there’s a position you can lock the damper in every few degrees, so no I had no problem positioning it so it didn’t interfere with anything. The wireless charger was a different matter though, that does have to be positioned correctly so you can plug the wire in. I had no issue getting the right position though.
Haven’t read the whole thread so apologies if I’m missing something… Not sure if it’s changed on the 2020 690s but the 2018 had a couple of spare electrical sockets in the headlight. One is switched and one is permanent live. Have they removed that in the newer models?
