They’ve probably stripped the thread on either the plug or the sump (usually the sump), so have welded it in place to keep it from falling out.
Gonna make draining the oil a right laff…
yea…hahaha:…
anyone got a sraw?
sraw, n, - cross between a saw and a straw
This bolt is gonna be a right bitch to sort out.
Trouble is you can’t unweld it, it has to ground out then drilled. Big risk of a fire there when you do.
Once again it’s a visit to your local friendly engineer with a recoil kit to put a new thread in it for you, not easy coz the sump pan is soft ally.
Mite be worth trawling thru old threads as I remember someone having a similar prob a coupla weeks ago.
Good luck m8
How old is bike did you buy it from a dealer ? How long have you owned it, put details on nane and shame.
Thats going to be a new sump mate, i bought a GSXR750 in 89 with the sump plug stripped. Had to but a new sump as they are really soft. Not to big a job
I am with Leggy Pete, replace the sump, small part and wont take long. Draining the oil could be fun though as you can not get the current sump plug out.
Alternative is to drill n thread smaller bolt into sump plug, Say m8 or m10 then use an ‘o’ ring on it and then make sure you dont overtighten.
This’ll cost ya only a coupla quid for parts n whatever labour ya m8 charges.
