Puncture repair? Or new tyre?

So, as some of you have seen on my Facebook, last week I fitted some new tyre to my bike (overly pleased with the grip) however today I found a nice big rivet penetrate my rear… :pinch:
I plugged it (internally) with a mushroom bung. And it’s fine, but its bought on a question from various friends…

What’s my long term plan?
Am I going to replace it? Erm… NO I just fecking bought it!

So my question is this…

Would you ride with a repaired tyre? (Just off Centre)
Or would you replace it?

I didn’t realise people even replaced them for such silly things…

ride it

If you have spare money buy tyre and save this one for rainy day. If you don’t and you wont loose any pressure, just use ride it.

Can’t you have it fixed? Be cheaper than buying new and safer than plugged.

For day to day commuting & pleasure, ride it.
I think the question should be, has anyone ever had a plug give out on them?

had 3 plugs and still did track days. crack on I say!

Yup , I have had up to 4 plugs in one tyre and still happily belted along like the nobber I am

2 plugs and trackday here

I have the tar strip type on my ntv and would happily do a track day and do over a ton on a private road without a worry

For piece of mind I change a plugged tyre as soon as I can.

I remember talking with the guy at Essential about this and he said providing it was done by someone who knows what they’re doing, you can go on trackdays with it and it won’t make the tyre any more unsafe…

Not everybody can use a tyre in quite the same way as you
I had a plug in the centre of my rear for 4000 miles before I changed it

Depends if it’s plugged properly or roadside repair job - unless you’re a courier I’d say don’t run those temp plugs for long, but as above the proper plugs will outlast the tyre if properly done.

Just keep it as it is. As far as I’m concerned it is repaired.
