Just coming home through Waltham Abbey half an hour ago, bloke turning right at the lights on a red CB500S wearing vest, shorts and trainers. Least he had gloves on. OK, your choice mate, it’s not my skin. But…
Behind with his arms round his waist was a little lad wearing what was obviously an adult helmet (cos it was huge), England shirt and shorts and little white trainers only just reaching the rests. Made me so bloody angry. Not his choice, was it?
They’ll probably be OK, really I hope they are, but if they’re not…
You’ve hit my sore point there. And it’s not going to get any better for another couple of months. I saw one guy the other day with a kiddee on the back with nothing but an England kit on, jump a red light! Thought my head was going to burst with rage.
Really winds me up seeing girlfriends on the back without proper clothing too.
I know it’s rather gruesome but perhaps a picture showing really nasty gravel rash might be carried in a pocket and shown to offending parties? Might make them think .
I’ve had a hunt around on Google and nothing much has come up - all mountain bike stuff which doesn’t really do the trick. Anybody know of an appropriate resource?
I decided to go for a little meander yesterday afternoon and was flabbargasted to see so many bikers out there not wearing suitable attire. Hot it may be, but, the roads I and they were riding meant that you were not going to be sitting around in traffic. Not just riders, but pillions as well.
I’m going to put together some small pocket-sized cards with one or two of the more gruesome pics, with some kind of tag-line - ‘It could be you’ or ‘I love the smell of road-rash in the morning, do you?’
These could then be handed out to offending riders stopped at red lights.
Would people be interested in this as a LondonBikers campaign/stand? Nobody else seems to be doing anything and I’m sure it would do us no harm as a PR exercise as well as getting the message across to those in need of a wake-up call.
Anybody fancy suggesting a line that might accompany these pics:
Muppets on scooters who work at my office come in wearing nowt but their business suits and a small open faced helmet oh and no gloves. I pity them if they come off!
You will have to get it cleared with Jay and Co if you want to use the LB bit, but, I can’t see them not agreeing really. it seems a great idea and shows that we care about our fellow riders. it will also promo LB a bit. Shame I can’t be at the ACE tonight but I have way too much to do before my race weekend ahead.
Hate it, Hate it, Hate it - i get annoyed when my missus asks me if she can not wear here bike trouser’s (black) over her jeans, let aloane a helmet to big, no gloves and no jacket!
Its only when they hit the road and the damage is done that they will realise! But then is to late and they will have 1 of 2 options they will do -
never ride again to avoid the situation again (bad move)
Never go out without the right clothing again (good move) but if they did it in the fist place wouldn’t really be faced with these options anyway!
