Probaly has been thought of but anyway

I would guess this has been discussed and is not practical but what do you guys think:

I was thinking what with all the bikes being stolen and the police not seeming to care much could we not organise a march through london raising the issue and maybe getting so air time. asking for things to be taken mores serious as most of us are rate payers and deserve a little police interest?

just a thought

I’ll go - but can we ride rather than walk - (maybe we can hold up the traffic a bit as part of the protest! ). Good idea.

Sorry i ment a riding march

Raising the profile of bike thefts is always a good thing, though be careful how you go about it, as things like go-slow rides will be counter-productive as they will turn people against us, not put them on our side. I know for one if a load of cyclists did this through town, we would hate them for it, or truckers, cabbies, whatever. Don’t put at odds the people we need on our side

How about a petition hand into the London Assembly or Scotland Yard requesting the something be done about the rate of bike thefts and how its efffects go further a field than just one person loosing a bike?

i’m sorry but I think that’s pointless.

Bikers need educating about bike security rather than blaming others.

I’ve lost count of the number of bikes reported on here that have just been lifted into a van with no or little resistance from tethers or locks.

I know hardcore bike thieves can overcome chains etc but the majority seem opportunist and go for easy targets.

Look after your P&J’s peeps:cool:

Good point - it will just make everyone resent us

Very true - but can the authorities install more rails and even ground anchors to attach our chains too? Most of us are taxpayers (council tax, road tax, inland revenue, westminster parking tax, fuel tax etc!) I think we’ve earnt the right to better security provision.

pertition is a good idear apart from it will probably get thrown away

I am not sure i agree chunks its not allway pratical to carry a hefty chain anyways my mate had one stolen of of a garage with 3 locks the police still need to pull their fingers out and charge heavier

Its not always possible for a bike to be secured to a solid object!!

I remember seeing somewhere where if you subscribed to a site you got a sticker and if you saw another bike with that sticker it was ok for you to run your lock through their lock.
Can’t say I’ve ever seen a sticker saying this, but maybe if you saw a bike with a LB one we could all start doing this?

Not that i’ve got a LB sticker on my bike at the moment but a good incentive for getting one, plus promoting this site.

Can talk with a bit of knowledge on this, i can assure you the police, (sytem) does do its best its just the CPS that lets us down, you would also be amazed too at the ammount of witnesses that dont want to provide statements or go to court,
as a biker, londoner, and copper and pretty much general decent chap (well apart for a few euro speeding fines) i can speak for the majority of us (as listed) that i would love to catch a theiving little scrote in the process of picning a bike, he would get the best possible treatment i could offer, if you know what i mean,
i dont wnat to cause a forum hot potato but the normal copper on the street would love to catch somebody in the process.

Agreed and we did start a thing about Daisy chaining bikes to bikes but it was poo-poo’d by Doubting Thomases:D

Did find this site:

http://www.lock2lock.co.uk

But I think there has been at least one other scheme like it over the years.

Lock to Lock. Just do it. It causes nobody any problems.

Demanding security devices from the councils is a double edged sword. They cost money which has to come from somewhere which leads to parking charges (see Westminster). However, if they’re going to put them in please make them useable. See Westminster again. They wasted a load of money on Sheffield Stands that are just never going to work. They now claim to be trying another design but they can’t tell me where and nobody has seen them.

If you want to demo, come along to the No Bike Parking demo and do a big sign that you’re there about theft issues as well.
