Surely you can’t trust a thing in Windows to prevent Windows from doing something? If you distrust MS enough that you need to be doing that sort of thing then it should be done on some separate host in between your Windows machine and the Internet. But more ideally you just don’t give MS your money; if you don’t trust the OS then it’s tricky to believe that anything you’re doing is secure.
its not done by windows
its done by some redbull drinking egg stained tee shirt geeks
I have upgraded my PC’s to Windows 10. Its really nice operating system. Windows 10 is what Windows 8 should have been.
Agreed with the above, done mine today and very smooth switch over and a nice OS. Emails still work etc,
One thing that bugs me is the long rectangle ‘search windows’ bar! Why does it have to be so big?
keep thinking because it’s free…it’s judgement day all over again
So I took the plunge at 18:00 this evening, and all went swimmingly well as 10 installed without a hitch.
Logged on and thought okay looks the same, then I noticed nvidia doing an upgrade and then blam! black screen.
Rebooted a few times, still only a black screen…arrrrrrrrgggghhhhhhhhh.
So after doing some research (on a tablet) I discover there are some issues with the nvidia drivers and windows 10 (my bad for not checking earlier)
Then ping! I remembered I installed teamviewer remote control, so was able to log on and eventually find some drivers that actually work.
Moral of the story, if it aint broke…don’t fix it.
But then we’d all be on XP…
You can boot to safe mode either if you need to fix it. Great diagnostic work though Russ.
Nope, not if you can’t see the power button… f8 on boot is no more in Windows 8 onwards.
Still running 7 Ultimate, which was probably the best after XP. However, since clicking the little notify me of my upgrade thingy about a month ago, my wireless dongle will no longer play nicely with my router and windows keeps telling me I’ve entered the wrong pass key even when it’s the right one… So, as you can probably tell, I’m dubious about making the shift over to 10.
If, like me, you’re waiting for serious improvements to Windows 10 before upgrading from Windows 7 then you may want to sign this petition…
Done 3 systems over the weekend. No issues and all are fast and working fine. But I do use SSD drives for the OS… Makes all the difference.
Been using it since the first previews and really like it (but I could be a little biased here:)) even going as far as running it on my macs. It’s been running on so many machines for over a year now that any serious bugs are long gone.It is questionable imo though to push the upgrade path to hard when it’s going to be impossible to get it to run smoothly on so many machines that vary so much. Normally always better to do a clean install imo, but that’s nearly impossible with the free upgrades.
Something to keep in mind, plenty of wireless dongle/adapter drivers are still quite unstable. I would not buy one that does not explicitily state it supports Windows 10.
Apparently Win10 will soon enable Xbox One to play Xbox 360 games, so allow me to increase the kids choice of titles.
Updated a couple of months back from 7 and it seems to work (as did 7), but am really missing Mediacentre.
I did some research for a suitable replacement and it seemed Media Portal was the best, I installed it and it’s a bit rubbish, not at all as intuitive, smooth and easy to use as MC, and it’s incompatible with my old MC remote. The only good thing about it is it doesn’t record TV into the very restrictive MC format.
Jay - it’s now possible to do a clean install with the latest build of it, without needing to jump through some hoops
Glad to hear it!
