Poorly GPX 600R

This is probably me being a bit dense but having a bit of trouble getting my GPX running…

The battery died out, so I changed it for a new one, but since then the biek is not starting, even with the trusted bump starting that was my technique before the new battery

it seems like the sparks are not sparking, have I just not connected something up to the battery, or have I blown a fuse or something like that? the lights come on no problem and the starter motor turns fine.

It could it be that some other component has gone south?

Any thoughts?

first of all check the fuses, are they all ok?

if they are then, how easy is it to get to the spark plugs? can you check that they are sparking?

I thought that maybe the fuses are OK as the lights come on, but if it is feasible for different circuits then I will check them.

How can I check that the spark plugs are sparking, take them out, connect them then try to start the bike?

Cheers

well firstly take em out and check condition, and give them a clean & check the gap. then replace and try to start.

if nothing happens you need to check for spark:
one by one disconnect the plugs and place near a metal area of the bike (AWAY FROM TANK,PETROL etc) and hit the ignition

you should see sparks coming out! (Obviously you need to take care here) if you dont then plugs need replacing

Cheers mate will give that a try!

Did you fully charge the battery before installing it?

You might have flooded the engine with fuel?

I don’t know anything about this bike, but if it has a fuel tap & chock, turn them off and try kicking it over of a bit. As the fuel dries out, you should hear it trying to start.

Failing that, check that you haven’t accidently disconnected any cables when swapping the batteries over.

might be the coils/coil.

way to check if getting spark is just to get another plug and pull caps off 1 by 1 put plug in rest it on the engine (if you dont you will get a shock, lol) and see if it sparks ok, check all 4.

take plugs out and clean em anyway while your there, all that starting ya might have flooded it a bit etc

also by checking plugs may show condition of fuelling etc.

usaul stuff though, clean plugs, new air filter etc.

Cheers guys, I didn’t charge the battery before I put it in, but it said I did not need to and it is providing a good charge.

It was rested for about 4 weeks over winter with the fuel tap on, so I guess it could have flooded…will check that…

Just need to get some time for all this
