polishing aluminium rims

So I’ve been having a go at my wheels now the gritters have parked up for a few weeks.
I’ve tried by hand with a bucket of water and progressively finer wet and dry. They look fantastic from a couple of foot away, but there is still a mottling to the metal I can’t seem to rub out. I made up some wet and dry discs for the four inch rubber disc that attaches to my drill, but I can’t really get in there with it. The dremel is a bit weak for this sort of thing I reckon. I bunged it up on its stand and left it ticking over in gear while holding a bit of 250 grit on the revolving rim, but I was virtually unconscious from exhaust fumes by the time I’d made any impact. Back when I had a workshop I would have mounted it in the lathe, but I haven’t got that sort of kit these days.
I’ve seen various buffing wheels on ebay that claim to do the job, I’m thinking one of those in the drill would do it. Anyone used these? Any recommended?

I’ve used a kit like This many times on engine casings & fork legs with good results, wet n dry is ok to start with but you need the polishing compound to get the mirror finish…
This one would be better for getting into awkward areas but the felts wear out very fast compared with the sisal mops in above link…

Well gauging by the pic next to your name, you clearly know what you’re talking about  I’m off to buy the first one. I’d been eyeing that one up on ebay, cheers
