I would be interested in it aswell. Arnie wants to join

There’s a lot of technical speak on here http://www.policecouldyou.co.uk/officers/Eyesight_25-2003.pdf

It lists different sorts of colour blindness, so have a read, and then give it a go… it’s fun, in a sadomasochistic kind of way:)

I think if you spell Police P L O I C E then then might not let you in regardless of what colours you’re seeing…

I thought that if you were colour blind, it would be a positive attribute- race relations and all that.

Just don’t fall for the trick questions - if they ask your fatehrs name- tell them you don’t know- a friend of my mates called “Dave”- got caught out with this old chestnut;)-

I’ve recently been through the Day 2 Physical and Medical, and they do test you for colour blindness. As to whether thisis a fail or not, I don’t know. But I would imagine it would depend on the type and level of colour blindness you have.

Give it a go mate, you never know! Also, try calling the Met Police Recruitment. I dare say they should have an answer for you…

You’ll find them in the Green Pages;)

:P:Pdont do it, get a proper job!! earn decent money and have friends !!

“A proper job and earn decent money”?

What, a proper job, like being a salaried architect with years of experience and earn a bit less than a police sergeant with a few years in?

A proper job where you work, at least 40 years before you can retire?

A proper job where you are expected to put in overtime for no pay?

You institutionalised uniforms don’t know what your missing in the real world.

Rant over. Just get real.

Return rant …

1/ What, a proper job, like being a salaried architect with years of experience and earn a bit less than a police sergeant with a few years in?
- Not really comparable are they ?

2/ A proper job where you work, at least 40 years before you can retire?
- Well I put in approx £350 a month of my wages into my pension … yep, I do pay for it and I’m just not too sure what use I would be as a 60 + year old patrolling the streets of London still being expected to get stuck into fights / foot chases / etc etc. So after 30 years of being abused, assaulted, stabbed, shot at etc etc. I think thats enough for any one, and maybe I deserve to retire from that line of work unless you don’t think I do ???

3/ A proper job where you are expected to put in overtime for no pay?
- Yep we do get overtime but also unlike you we at a moments notice can be called back to work which we must do - that can include in the middle of your holidays / family stuff etc etc. I know of one bloke who had to come back from his honeymoon due to a court date.

4/ You institutionalised uniforms don’t know what your missing in the real world.
- Maybe if I lived in your world I wouldn’t see so much death and utter misery, though I still love my job dearly and would do anything to help anyone, maybe you should just cut us a break if we’re getting something you’re not … or join up, we take on oldies too you know ! Believe me there are advantages to any job - maybe if I worked your civilised hours with your guaranteed holidays without threats to yourself or having to deliberately place yourself knowingly in danger then I’d be having a pop at those that do this for you on your behalf.

;):stuck_out_tongue:

Now breath, fancy a cuppa at the next BMM ?

Yawn . . . plod -v- non plod job, seen the argument so many times, nobody ever wins. You make your choices when you’re young and you usually then have to stick with the choice you made, tough sh*t, get over it, works both ways. I wouldn’t want to be a plod for double the money despite early retirement, but I know of people who wouldn’t want my job too.

O.K. Rants over. Steve… Has it about right. You make your choices when your young.

Odd bits though.

I also pay for my pension at the same % rate as you. I just pay for 40 years.

No, I don’t think you should be out on the streets at sixty but there are some other police jobs that are office based filled by 20 somethings on the same pay rate that should be.

I think you have a sh***y job to do but, believe it or not, you get quite well paid for that. I bet on a good week, with a bit of overtime, you can almost earn what a tube driver or petrol tanker driver gets.

Now there’s a thought to conjure with.

I just wish that you lot would stop moaning.

But there’s nothing better than a good moan … and us coppers are very good at that !!

city job wearing a suit or police job tackling scum (and receiving little if any thanks for it)…

think i’ll keep my job thanks v much

+1Mind you i would love to be traffic and ride the bikes, i’m sure its a sh*t job as well but it will never happen as i’m too old now. Back to the suits.

Hey Curtis, you sure you want to join the ‘filth’ if this is the reaction you create just from asking about colourblindness!!!

But just look at the fun you can have riding your bike in the sunshine when you are off shift and everyone else is working;)

I’ve done both and there’s no way I’d go back into the Force (or Service or whatever it’s called now). Talking to mates that are in the job now, things seem to have changed on the streets a fair bit from when I left in '92. Curtis, I’m red/green colour blind and it didn’t stop me being accepted. I think others are right, just check with Recruitment. Good luck with your application.

well seems i will be accepted but it limits what i can do, cant do rapid response driving or firearms, whiuch is what i really would of wanted to do, so im now in 2 minds wether or not to do police or do paramedic, hmmmm decisions decisions

I think you should look into it a bit more mate. It might limit you from doing firearms training and rapid response driving, but there are a lot more roles that can be equally exciting. Try having a chat with one of the lad’s on here about other specialist roles, such as TSG, FIT, Special Branch etc… Either way, you would have to do your 2 years probationary period, and you may even find that exciting enough and remain as a PC on the beat like some of the guy’s on here.

Good luck, whatever you choose mate.
