PMR radio headsets?

Anyone got experience with these? I’ve tried the MSH type (of the sort found in maplin, or packaged with radios) but found them simply not durable. The wires just get twisted once too often and then you have no or erratic audio.

Anybody found anything less prone to twisting and far more durable? I’m beginning to think it’s just not worth it, but someone must have a solution because bike school instructors the country over have it working.

I useed the Maplin Motorcycle PTT headsets every day for over two months without problems and stil lsue them. I one had a bent opin o na connector, but otherwise all has been OK.

I’ve gone through 2 of those my friend. One lasted about a week. The replacement I’ve had in for a while but haven’t used it much until recently. I located the cable very carefully so the weak part wasn’t under stress and gaffer taped other bits so they wouldn’t move. It’s now not working.

The bits where speaker cables join the plug assembly appear to be very weak and just don’t stand up to the rigours of my everyday motorcycling.

Had a set and they broke before I even got to France. Lasted all of 40 miles

Strange - we have used them only with flip front helmets so the wires and connectors have had to put up with more movement etc than would otherwise be the case. As for the weakpoint mentioned, neither of our sets shows any damage there, however, I don’t leave the headsets dangling, as when using them we have the plug stuffed behind the ear as our helmets are generous in ear space. This means the wiring doesn’t have to support the weight of the plug or the weight of the longer cable.
