So, a few weeks ago I had some new kids (chavs) hanging around my estate… One evening after picking up the lady from work I returned home to see a motorcycle laying on the floor along with a police car automatically I realised it was stolen seeing as the helmet was a few hundred yards down the roadand there was no rider in sight…
I pulled up to my gate and a lad of about 16 popped out from my neighbours garden and asked for a lift… To cut a long story short I had followed him whilst on the phone to the police giving them every little detail… Eventually 2 vans turned up from the same direction (after I told them the best position for them to approach) he saw them and legged it towards me,
I was already at boiling point because he had stolen someone’s pride and joy! The copper shouted grab him! So I floored him! (with not even a thanks)
(he obviously didn’t see my face properly) because I have seen them various times, and now they have started asking me if I want to “buy” any stolen bikes… Obviously I don’t but it is handy for me to keep them interested… I have asked to see what they have etc but obis they won’t show me, it seems like there just trying to make cash, so if anyone “looses” there bike in the angel area please tell me a little about it and I will make some enquires…
My advice would be to be very careful how you handle this… don’t forget that you have to live there
I used to live in that area (on one of the estates on Britannia Row) and always hated it when I had to park my bike up on the estate… luckily used to to be able to chain lock, disc lock and cover so no one really ever touched it but I was always worried everytime I drove into the estate and there were kids who could see me…
Well I have nothing to worry about in regards to my bike being safe, I have a ridiculously viscous dog, and 3 females who are more than scary enough…
My house is also covered in CCTV!
But as anyone would be I am still cautious about it, but I also don’t think it’s fair they should be riding around on our bikes… Luckily I have my own garden with a 10ft wall the whole way around it…
I’ve had my bike touched a few times. As I work in angel. But I tend to not let it gray my hairs.
If you have to park your bike and leave it unattended its going to get looked at. Part of London really, just have to expect it.
Its not nice but that’s what insurance is for. An alarm helps bring awareness, but all it take is a Hi-Viz to look official and for people to relax. Even Adz recovering my bike into an unmarked van and no one even said anything.
So, I returned home today to find a little piaggio skipper laying in my estate with the barrel hanging out etc etc (Number plate still attached)… I called the local station to find out it actually had been nicked back in april… So I went and put my lock on it… 2hours later the police turned up to find the locals trying to get it started… Sorry for the bad pic but it was the best I could do at the time…
Although the sign fits rather well ey?
The policeman must have been a bikr himself because I got the “bikers nod” and a great big smile from him…
I did think about it… But I had that slight thought in my head, the police will turn up when im pushing it into my garden, and they wont find my phonecall record to prove my innocence, so I though… I cant go wrong with a chain!..
But they did call me at 10pm saying they cant find the owner… and that it is actually declared mine if no one claims it with in so long…
fingers crossed the owner comes out of the woodwork!
