morning, am off the Lille the the Dordogne tomorrow… am having arrow pipe and power commander fitted to blade this morning… have firkin forgotten that it hasn’t had first service yet (750 on the clock)… old bike just had one, got nicked, replaced it and totally slipped my mind that this baby hasn’t yet… will i be able to talk the guys at the garage to service it before they do the work or is it a really long naff job that they’ll have no interest in? opinions and tactics please folks… a week on the roads of the dordogne with my first in-line 4 and a pipe for 7 years (old zx-6 with a remus… lovely sounding thing… been on sp-1’s and 2’s since) is at stake!!
As above, usually if you are real nice and kinda apologetic you should be fine. First service is so minor it takes next to no time. Hope it gets done and that you have a nice old trip.
cheers for the advice lads and lasses, just got back, they’re more than happy to do it… all sorted… bring on the gurgle on the overrun and the slightly easier and safer filtering!! essential for any London biker in my view… i hate riding a bike with a stock exhaust in town, it’s lethal.
i did, he asked me if he could ride pillion to the dordogne… sorry fella, i said, tailpack… he reckoned he could squeeze in behind me… he had a can of lube in his hand and rubber gloves on… ah gad! i must remeber to buy some buttplugs, i mean earplugs before i set off! ;-))
Glad you have it sorted and I hope you have a top rideout over the weekend. Only slightly jealous here. I have to squeeze in fixing bikes inbetween having to work and taking my son out.
fixing bikes? you weren’t a donnington casualty this w/e were you? that looked pretty miserable…
i am seeing my lad this avo… he and the wife have been at the gparents since last friday in Lille… can’t wait to see him and to jump the wife! gotta go do the washing up or she’ll brain me when we get home!
I was at Lydden mate, not good enough to be riding at the BSB. Fixing bikes refers to a rather sorry ZX7 that needs the exhaust replaced and some other stuff done. I also need to strip out the front brake system of my racing SV due to it getting air into it. We believe that the master cylinder is the cause, it is slightly bent after my off at Snetterton. While the whole braking system is off the bike we shall be stripping the calipers and putting new seals in. New pads as well. New fluid, probably DOT 5 this time etc etc. Yet another oil and filter change. Full clean, so wheels out, bodywork off etc etc. It all takes time but is worth it.
wow… best get off the keyboard and into the garage then!! … you’re talking to a complete clueless git when it comes to how they work… i love riding them and i’m pretty ok on a track but i’ve never raced and never done anything more complicated to my horses than change the screen… i am not gifted practically in any way shape or form, however, i sand and paint quite well now after doing a couple of rooms in the house… that’s about the limit though
Chuffster, I was very close to going to Lydden last weekend as my mate (Chris O’Donnell) was racing in the Rookie 600s, but I didn’t make it in the end.
Hey Chuffster, that is a really good read! … very nicely written! … it almost felt as if I were there with you.
You did fvckin’ well dude!! … nice one!! … I wish I had been there now! … You lived up to your name … well chuffed I’ll bet!!
Chris is an old friend of mine … I’ve known him for years … lost touch with him for the last couple of years though as he moved job, so his email address & mobile numbers changed. Luckily, a mutual friend kept track of him. Anyhow, I don’t know who B is.
I’m gonna have to come along to the next one now … reading your report has made it doubly worth it!
