Please don't be tempted to use the hard shoulder

I had to go to Manchester yesterday. Anyway, coming home it took me about 3 hours to do 20 miles due to an accident blocking lanes 2 and 3 on the M6. The whole 200 miles home was slow moving due to one problem or another until I got to the M40 where there had been what looked like about 8 vehicles involved in one pile up.

Despite being frustrated at being held up from getting home at a decent time, there was nothing I could do about it and I just had to sit there and wait. But a few had different ideas and decided to use the hard shoulder and jump the queue.

I had been stationary for about half an hour watching these tossers come racing down the shoulder behind me. A Volvo (surprise surprise ) convertible came past at about 50 - 60 MPH totally not giving a monkeys about the consequences and obviously under the assumption that the Police were too busy dealing withthe accident ahead.

10 minutes later and the traffic starts moving, and guess what? The Volvo had ploughed into the back of one of the broken down vehicles on the hard shoulder :rotflmao: You can guess what my thoughts were? Fortunately the occupants of the broken down vehicle were out and in safety, I don’t think the occupants of the Volvo got off so lightly, and I am afraid I have no sympathy.

So, just be carefull out there

Common sense really, at least the tw@t of a volvo driver got what was coming to him, just a shame an inocent persons car was involved!!

Glad to hear it. With the roadworks on the M25 Jct 16 - 18, the traffic is usually tailing back to jct 12, but not too bad. Many drivers heading for Ruislip/Uxbridge/Northwood etc. are now using the M4, A312, A40 to finish there route which has made getting to Jct 3 M4 extremely slow. Like 99% of the drivers, we wait, moving very slowly, but surely. However, people coming out of the airport at jct 4 appear to think that the hard shoulder is for their exlclusive use…where is a copper when you need one…on a daily basis!! Anyone coming from the hard shoulder trying to get in front of me will get nowhere except for a mouthful of abuse and so far this year, I have done this twice and a lorry driver even pulled in to stop a car and nearly came to blows…only got themselves to blame.

3 points & £60 isn’t enough for the ‘I’m too important to wait’ muppets… They ought to go through all the video footage from the Motorways and send them all a Notice of Intended Prosecution…

What complete idiots, i hope they get there licence taken away.

I gotta say I done that also… was on the M25 going round towards the crossing, I was going to lakeside so all I wanted was to go left. Was stuck in a long traffic jam. A few cars went past, bloke in front of me started to shout the F word and the W:))… I jumped in and started to follow them, bloke that just had a go at the other comes after me too…

With all due respect, the people waitting for teh crossing were blocking all 4 lanes, kinda ****, as people in left lane were trying to leave off towards the A13 the ones stuck waiting would jump in first lane, only to block off everyone wanting to go left. Hard shoulder was probably the only way to avoid about 1 mile in 30 minutes.

Seconded

Regularly see people using the hard shoulder when traffic is a standstill on the motorways. Angers me as I sit and wait so would love to have seen that Volvo crash!
