Where’s the best places to avoid living in London? I am going to be working in Lambeth and I haven’t got a place yet, my house pimp (estate agent) hasn’t responded to my calls today so I’m going to have to seek out a place elsewhere.
I am probably going to take the bike with me to London but I might not if the area is too dicey.
I’ve been looking at some places online today, just one bedroom places and so on.
Hayes (West out past southall before uxbridge) is dire, its full of chavs that live close enough to london to think themself rudeboi’s but as theres nothing to do out there all they do is annoy people…
I kinda agree there Andy, I’ve been told some places are “OMG **** hole places!” and then the they suggest places like Bethnal Green, which is pretty much the same in all fairness. I’ve been told Wood Green is nice but I’ve been there a lot and it’s not really up-market at all, just less homeless people wandering around.
That is exactly the thing about any area of London - you have to go and LOOK - there are very nice bits next to very nasty bits and no amount of looking on a map will tell you what it’s like - just go and trudge around, see for yourself what it feels like.
Just do yourself a favour and stay away from lambeth:w00t: and before anybody jumps and says what’s wrong with lambeth its where i live and is a right sh*thole:D
yeah dont much like lambeth too.
i live in rotherhithe and think its ok but there is always some1 who will dislike it etc.
not many places are good for bike crime etc so on your look out for dogs try get a garden/garage etc.
did jay (londonbikers head honcho) not have a place/bike friendly for rent?
parts of North london are really nice, soem parts of south are ok, East is gettign trendy…
the thing is with london, the main areas and roads look nice, and are pretty safe areas, go off the main roads down the side roads where the estates are and that all changes…especially after dark.
Lots of nice places in London, depends on budget. Wood Green is a sh*t hole though.
As mentioned Hampstead is lovely, West hampstead is more affordable than the rest of it. Islington is lovely too, so is a lot of Fulham, Finchley, Muswell Hill, Crouch End, Regents Park, Marylebone, then there’s always Mayfair, Chelsea, Notting Hill etc if you’re really flossing
At the end of the day, it’ll depend on what you can afford. Last time I worked in West Hampsead and Islington (as an estate agent) 1 bedroom flats were around GBP350 per week. That was 3+ years ago though so prices have probably moved on.
A mate of mine lived in Woolwich Arsnel, he hated it so much, he just used to moan about it all the time, he was only paying something like £250 a month for a house share though. Decent enough house, just a pretty miserable looking area.
