So I’ve finished my term for uni, and got 4 weeks ahead of me to do generally not much, so I had this brainwave of an idea (as you do) of applying to one of the millions of pizza outlets near me as a DELIVERY RIDER
I know the area really well, have ridden small crapy scooters since i was about 15, and really need to get some income flowing in to pay for the alcohol I will be consuming in the not too distant future
Any tips/advice/info on my brainwave? Like average life expectancy (:p), pay, what kinda hours you gotta work, if its generally worth it? Will probably only work the busy xmas period (3 weeks) and stop.
I did pizza delivery on a DT125 for a couple of years to supplement my student grant (yes it was a while ago). I enjoyed it but it was hard work and the tips were virtually non-existent (unless delivering to bikers). Slid off in the rain once and had to explain to a customer why their toppings had slid off the bases- they had no sympathy and sent me back to get replacements and a full refund (which incidently came off my wages!). There were some ‘ups’- like the lady who appeared at her door in her dressing gown and invited me in to ‘warm up’. Overall a good laugh but check the condition of the bike they send you out on- particularly the tyres.
I must hold the best tip ever for a pizza delivery guy but I’m not going to go into what it was in this forum…I rode on the bikes and the gear they give you is far to hot for the summer and to cold in the winter also about as useful as a chocolate teapot in the the, as soon as they clothes saw sight of water the would just start soaking you and the worse bit you HAVE to wear them as their insurance will say so…
Tips depend on area apparently west wickham (who I wokred for) is supposed to be the best tipping places ever, on a slow night I would get about £10-£15 in tips. some times I would take home more in tips than 2-3 nights wages.
In general it is a good laugh but it is very stressful
i done deliverys for pizza hut they expect you to ride about like a tit 24/7 to meet deadlines but at end off day ur lifes more inportant than a pizza! same with courier riding when i was doing that.
