Physical security recommendations for a CBR600RR

Hi. Can anyone recommend physical security for a CBR600RR ? I live in a secure/gated development so hopefully shouldn’t have too many problems when parked at home, but will still treat it as though it’s parked on the street to be on the safe side. My main concerns are when I’m parking it away from home so I need to get a good chain(s).
I’ve spoken to a number of shops, friends, read magazine reviews and looked at various chain tests but am still no closer to deciding on what to get A number of shops and friends have suggested the ABUS chains, specifically the Extreme and Victory models or Oxford chains. I’ve read the Almax postings on the forums and watched their videos but have had conflicting advice that the tests were flawed becuase they same cutter was used throughout the videos therefore the Almax chains would be more difficult/impossible to cut becuase the tool was blunt by the end etc. But at the same time it’s still something to consider.

A few people have suggested putting a disc lock on as well, although most have agreed they are pretty much pointless. The Abus Victory or Detecto and Motrax Vishas have been recommended so far.

Just one more question are most ground locks very similar in terms of security (attaching to concrete floor or wall) or can anyone recommend a particular model ?

Now that I have the bike I look forward to meeting everyone at the next meet.

Thanks for any help.
Stuart.

You’ll find no shortage of recommendations for Almax on LB, many of us have them. I rate them very highly. I wouldn’t trust my bike with any other chain personally.

Also, I would perhaps edit your post to remove what security you have at the moment, I don’t think it’s wise to have this as publically-accessible information!

Yes, who knows what person may be looking on the net for a bike in an unknown location somewhere in the UK that’s locked up in a secure development - or possibly somewhere else.

I would offer my own recommendations, but seeing as I’d recommend what I use myself that wouldn’t be a good idea. Apparently.

In 1 of the almax videos they show that they put on brand new cutty bits to try and cut the almax.

The thing almax has on its side is the size of the links, if you see an almax chain you will see wot i mean, compared to t’others it is massive.

Just look at the videos and see how much they have the bolt croppers open to cut the almax then look how much on the rest of em.

Ask shane/smiled too, they tried to nick his k6 750 and he had borowed an almax and tried to cut it, thats all they did was try, lol. also ask him if he would prefer to borrow and abus or axford instead.

Disc lock wont prevetn some1 lifting ya bike into a van, also if ya get chain etc chain it to summat, living in an enclose/private bit is good most of the time but if fellows with van get in there which aint hard they aint got a lot of pepes watching em.

…seeing all those videos on you tube…the technique all of them use requires some part of the chain to be touching the ground… if you are not using an anchor…would it not be a nice idea to loop chain few times around the wheel so that there is no length left for the chain to work on…??

Thanks for the suggestions. It sounds as though the Almax chains are the way to go then. I’ve had a quick look at their website and they have series III and IV chains, any suggestions on which model and length to go for ? On average do most people use 1.5m or 2.0m chains (Probably an unsual question, but I’m new to biking ) Are the Almax chains still practical to carry in a tail bag ?

well i have 2 almax series 4, and a mammoth ground anchor, my bike is parked on a private driveway and covered up, it makes me feel very secure with these chains! I also got a discount with almax when i mentioned i was a member of londonbikers.com, and a free kriega tailpack us-10!!

Hi Tiger. If you don’t mind me asking, what ground anchor did you get ? When you park the bike away from home do you take one chain or two and do you take your cover ?

Thanks.

i went for a groundhog 3 anchor, no i dont take either of the chains with me, they are not for portable use. The travel cover comes with me and a lightweight lock.

Almax dude…ithere heavy but i manage to carry it on the back of my 6rr. pain in the aris but i wouldnt leave my baby without it.

i also got a discount with almax when i mentioned i was a member of londonbikers.com, and a free kriega tailpack

well my bike was stolen and parked in a garage next to another stolen bike…an R6…who…thank all the heavens…had a TRACKER fitted to it…a police car was doing a usual patrol and the tracker becon in his car started to go off…when he opend the garage door there they were…it was the happyist day of my adult life….
