Petrol resitant sealant

Hi allI had to remove the fuel tank on my zx9 C1 and when I removed the fuel pipe from the fuel tap it pulled the small brass connector out from the fuel tap ( see pic with highly accurate red arrow <cough> )

When I reassembled everything I now have a small weep from where the brass connector sits into the fuel tap.

I am planning on removing again and reseating with a small ammount of sealant, my question is what should I use?

I was thinking gasket sealant (Hermatite or simular) is this petrol resistant?

Not sure about this one. I think the brass connector is an interference fit, i.e. so tight that it is air tight, or petrol tight in this case.

Is there not some sort of undercut for a small rubber ‘o’ ring?

Unfortunately, having had similar problems in the past on Suzukis and Yamahas, I fear a trip to your local Kawasaki dealer to order a new assembly is on the cards.:ermm:

Thanks for the input Puppy.

I’ll remove at the weekend and have look in there, fairly sure the brass connector did not have a groove cut for an o-ring, but I’ll dbl check.

im with pups on this…

three bond is what you looking for…

FWIW, I used araldite metal putty when I needed to patch my tank

Thanks all, but no sealant needed in the end.

The connector does not have an O-ring to seal it’s just a very tight fit and when I refitted I was little to gentle with it. Took it all apart and refitted with a light tap of the plastic mallet and all is well once again.

Cheers.

Oh, and pic below is my son in all his new gear on our first ride out together yesterday after said repair, he’s a brill pillion and I’m very proud

Great news, nice one!:)

ahhh how old is he? I took my nephew who’s 11 on mine a week or 2 ago, he thought it was wicked

He’s ten.

He has been having rides up and down our close since he was three (sitting on the tank between my arms) He has a little mini moto thing that he is way to big for now, but this was the first proper on road ride as I got all his gear for him over the last week or so.
