I totally agree with this!
Sitting behind a stationary car at lights is just asking for respiratory damage from inhaling exhaust fumes.
Also I’d rather jump ahead of a stationary car to help prevent being rear ended by the dozy blind driver pulling up behind me.

The lycra boys aint going to like it.

Thanks; signed.

singed. i hope this happens then they should inforce it more so stupid drivers wont pull in the the box completely covering it up XD

Signed in already, posted on FB.

Agree with everything you said there Premisis. Unfortunately most cyclists wont like it. But as a cager I would rather have a bike infront of me making a swift getaway, compared that to most disrespectful cyclists that don’t even stop at red lights. At least the good ones keep out of the way and follow the rules of the road.

I think this is a good idea, and I have signed it and posted to Facebook.

Everyone does it already. Who cares about a petition. A more effective protest would be to mob central London with black spray paint and paint over them… Just make sure you don’t get caught.

signed thanks, I do use the advance box occasionally but be good to be officially blessed

I’m about to be unpopular here but I don’t necessarily agree.

The ASL is there to keep cyclists away from the rest of us hydrocarbon guzzling maniacs and that seems like a perfectly good idea. Plus, if the advanced box gets full, the cyclists will all end up in a long line down the cycle lane - blocking left turning vehicles.

It would be better if the cyclists could be kept to the left and the motorbikes to the right, all in front of the queue of cars but that rule would last about 5 seconds.

Let’s face it though, half the cars and motorbikes on the road ignore that blue rectangle anyway and when it’s full, cyclists just push in front over the proper stop line.

Instead of having them all lined up down the left and they give way to someone turning left, you would rather them all in front of everything and no-one goes anywhere?

I was thinking, like you say, split it left for cycles, right for bikes.

I have to agree with Monkimark, we don`t need no box.

Overtake them before you get there, let`s play fair.

hmmm also if you notice most asl boxes give enough room for emerg services to get through a set of lights on correct side of road so not have to “offside” and cyclist can move into a better position quicker ( pick bike up) whilst ptw only option is to cross a red or stay put …

so i say no

75% of riders i tend to see dont even stop at the line anyway but at the crossings markings …

Top idea! (I do it anyway)

A few years ago the last Governemtn was planning to test the implicatiosn of this. Not sure of the outcome, but some councils agreed to take part.

Does anyone know if this junction was trialled for example?

That is all fine but they don’t wait at red traffic lights anyway - at least 75% of them don’t.

If you think I am wrong hang around outside Balham Tube station - this is the Mecca for ignoring traffic lights/pedestrians or conducting yourself without any kind of common sense.

I have nothing against cyclists other than the fact that they have done no official training to share the road with others, do not contribute to the upkeep of the roads, have no insurance for third party risks and generally appear to have no road sense. The carriage of children (often toddlers) during the rush hour in buckets attached to the back of their bikes in my mind should come under child abuse legislation - these innocents do not know what danger their stupid parents are subjecting them to.

Without proper investment in cycle lanes and I don’t mean painting the road surface blue - there is no place for cyclists on London’s busy roads.
They are a danger to themselves and a liability for motorised, licenced, taxed and insured road users.

There is already ASL box in Stratford, divided, left side for bicycles, right side for motorcycles which makes sense, pity its the only one I’ve ever seen.

Just checked google maps, actually its not divided, just says bicycles and solo motorcycles, on the Romford road.

The Government trial was seeking local authorities to test junctions. Newham was one that agreed, so was Kingston, which is why I asked about the King’s Road junction mention in the Kingston council papers as I have never seen one of these junctions.

The plan was for the signs to change, and then the Government would film what happened at the junctions looking for accidents, dangers and interactions between bikes, cycles and other vehicles.

I’ll have to have a look next time I’m over that way, only live about a mile from the richmond/kings road junction, can’t say I’ve ever noticed anything out of the ordinary, maybe I jst have crap obs skills.

Well looks like the intelligent bikers are against the motion while the abject knobbers are all for it.

I’ve lived near Balham tube for 8 years, doesn’t seem any worse than anywhere else to me. Although they always have to fight for space in the advanced stop boxes with motorbikes and cars :stuck_out_tongue:

I think the advanced stop box is an investment in cycle lanes, unfortunately nobody pays any attention to them. Same with the blue stripe - yes it’s a bit of a token gesture but if all cars, motorbikes and scooters stay out of them then they do their job and keep cyclists out of harms way.

Pedestrians also have no training, insurance etc but they’re still allowed to cross the road, they even get their own bit of the road reserved just for them and have special traffic lights to get them from one side to the other - suggesting that cyclists be banned from London is clearly stupid.
