Just to clarify,
The BBC will be at the Ace Cafe at 12:30 to film bikers and do some Vox Pop pieces to camera, this will not be followed by a run to central London. Sorry about any confusion - lines of communication and all that.

I’ll ride down at 12:30 but if i cant find parking wont be able to stick around :ermm:
For further clarification, the petition will be handed in at City Hall by the pedal cyclists at 12. If you want to be there for that then so be it.
The filming of motorcyclists will take place at the Ace Cafe at 12:30.
Would it not have a far greater impact turning up on pushbikes to pro-motorbikes-in-bus-lanes rallies and demonstrations and so forth?
Just a thought.
I would love to go but i`d be to tempted to run the buggers over.
:hehe::hehe: Errm Import if we did that wouldn’t everyone think we were cyclists in support?!? Well some of us are cyclists too but…umm… well maybe you’re onto something. We’d have to wear full protective gear to distinguish ourselves as bikers of course
We could ride our cycles straight into City Hall cos cyclists can ride on pavements, through red lights, where the f they like can’t they ![]()
well i would be more than happy to turn up on my bicycle in support of motorbikes using bus lanes, to prove that not all cyclists are idiots:)
OK will try and get to the ace for 12:30.
Ian,
done some digging for you, have included some attachments. Accident figures are on pages 116-118 of the document (not acrobat pages). Finding that pdf document on the department for transport website was a nightmare. Hope it is useful. Have included a jpeg of the bicycle accident rates. There is to much information for me to analyse in the time that I have.
Found these bits elsewhere however they are from earlier reports and maybe outdated.

You might like to point out that cyclists on the whole in London do not:

I like the fact that they crash into each other, and buses, and cars, and pretty much everything (except animals apparently) more frequently than they crash into motorbikes. Perhaps they should just protest against any other vehicles at all using bus lanes :ermm:
What is shocking is 60% of accidents involve nothing else!
Reading the LCC website rubbish on this topic, they only mention London. But what about the experiences in other places where PTW (:P) are allowed in Bus Lanes, such as Chelmsford, Bristol, and, er, all the rest…?
Next thing you know they’ll be campaigning against busses using bus lanes FFS!
Very useful info in there, I managed to get this out as well:
‘Pedal Cyclists, followed by LGV drivers are the most likely to be in an accident in which they failed to look properly, (25 percent and 23 per cent respectively). Motorcycles are most likely to be in an accident with another vehicle that failed to look properly.’
which says quite a lot really.
So, in rverse order, a cyclist will be much safer on our pavements roads if we ban the following items: 3) car/lgv… 2) ‘objects’… and streets ahead in 1st place, NOTHINGI thus propose to ban the item on the list which causes by far the greatest numbers of accidents for cyclists - that’s right, let’s ban cyclists!!!:w00t:
unfortunately the BBC were late getting their act together, so had to do a runner to a meeting before I could get interviewed, but a guy was there and gave him all the facts I had printed out and spoke to the BBC guys as well. Also they were going to do the filming with my bike in the background… :(Thanks to road runner for the company!
Well done guys for showing support!
In a letter to the mayor, LCC’s chief executive Koy Thomson said: “While we would support measures to make motorcycling safer, such as a 20mph speed limit, there is no clear environmental, safety or congestion reason for allowing motorcycles into bus lanes.” What a load of tosh, apart from the TFL report that showed a 40% reduction in accidents when bikes were allowed to use bus lanes…
Yes and I can’t believe he says ‘no environmental or congestion benefits’??? How about- Shorter journey time. Less fuel used per journey. Fewer emissions than sitting in traffic jam. Grrrr
