Petition AGAINST PTWs in bus lanes

I’ve just heard that the pedal-cycle lobby will be presenting a petition AGAINST PTWs in bus lanes to Boris tomorrow (Friday) at City Hall - time is expected to be 12:00.

We need to have a representative who can speak convincingly and coherently FOR PTWs in bus lanes. However it seems all MAG local elected representatives are going to be elsewhere at that time. :frowning:

Can LB provide a spokesman (or several!) for the PTW riders?

Bullet points:

PTWs are part of the solution to congestion, not part of the problem.
A PTW moving in a bus lane is doing infinitely more mpg than a car doing 0 mph.
Many PTW riders are cyclists also - and they do not report a problem.
The original TFL report showed there was a net benefit to all road users including pedestrians when PTWs are allowed in bus lanes.
In the twelve schemes around the country where PTWs are allowed in bus lanes there has never been a problem on safety (or any other) grounds.
In Sweden, perhaps the most H&S conscious country in the world, they have allowed PTWs in bus lanes since 1986.

Also the BBC wish to mount a mini-cam to a PTW to show the difference between having to filter and using a bus lane - any volunteers? All to be done I assume before the 1 o’clock news.

There’s the MAG monthly Greater London meeting tonight at the Ace Cafe at 20:30 when this will be discussed at more length.

sorry for my ignorance but what the fugg is a PTW

Powered Two Wheeler. Official tag for bikes, innit?

Sorry, can’t be here I am afraid.

i would but i am rubbish at taliking out loud thats why i type see!!

Why dont you do it jimc

Maybe the BMF boys will be there?

PM’ed ya Jim.

If I can get an early lunch then I’d go to lend my support (protest) as an individual or as part of a ‘rabble’ but not as the official representive.

Thanks Ian. Here’s hoping some others can turn up as well.

I can’t be there as I’ll be in Flanders.

Dude! That’s just wrong! What will Rod and Todd think???…unless of course JimC IS Flanders - I for one have never seen them in the same room…

The BBC want to film bikers using the bus lane.

The plan is to meet to the Ace at 12:30 and then to run down to central London.

I know it is short notice, but the Riders’ Rights lobby needs as many there.

Uncle Sol
Greater London Regional Rep (MAG).

would love to come and show support but as there is scarce parking at London Bridge wont be able to pop round…

I could meet up in central london, or at your end point, where is that going to be and at what time? Ack just seen the Ace meeting time. I have a non-movable meeting at 14:00, so might not be able to make it…

I was confused by that acronym as well. Can’t we call them motorbikes any more?

How about MB’s?

+1

I’ve had a camera fitted to my bike for sometime and have plenty of filtering footage if you want it…

They can’t have everything the way they want…how about stopping at red lights if you use the road:

Same guy on a bike…I counted seven red lights he went through (some you cannot see well on the video)…no wonder he managed to stay in front of me for nearly two miles…

who’re you talking to? :Whistling: :ermm:

I’d be happy to help with the filming however I commute via South London to Central London but I’d do the same trip twice if they wanted me to.

Sorry that was aimed at Uncle Sol…

This is short notice so more info please for those of us who want to lend some support. What time is the petition being handed in? Is the idea to be there when it’s handed in or afterwards for the cameras? A time and muster point at City Hall or nearest parking place or wherever would be useful as I can’t justify riding up to Ace and back in my lunch break but would like to participate

I work next door to City Hall. I’ve got a couple of meetings between 11 and 3, but I will pop down whenever I can. Who’s going to be there, when and where?
