Hey guys, was messing around with some colleagues in a car park last night, tried to go knee down and i was hanging off with my left knee (i was turning right) pressed into the tank and my right knee stuck far out to the right with my toe on the pegs. however all i managed to do was to scrape my pegs and not my knee… and im not sure why lol any advice would be great.
oh and i ride a cbr125
Twist yourself into the tank. Keep your arms at a 90degree angle (forearms/elbow/upper arm), if turning right slide your bum off the right side of the bike but twist your upper body so you are wrapping your inner left thigh round the base of the tank and push your right leg forward and out. I hope that makes sense it’s a lot easier to show you that to explain
Sorry but thats a bad technique. you should have the end / ball of the peg in the middle of your foot roughly where your toes join your foot. You then use this as a pivot point for twisting your foot out, but keeping your foot roughly parallel to the bike. Your other leg tuck into the tank and get your bun cheek off the seat and your body parallel to the bike and with your head look into the corner.
scraping the pegs means … your over far enough … any more and your off …
in a knee down position on a reasonable b or a road means your not in a position to react to anything unexpected around the corners you can’t see … if you wish to learn … go to a trackday …where no hedges hide hidden suprises and keeps your head out of the hedges …
I saw a guy on a GSX-R just off junction 8 take the split in the road we were on, cut left turned his knee out and assumed a knee down attitude and disappear down a steep corner road…stupid bastard is all I can say. The road has loads of scarring and cars sometimes slow after that corner so they can turn right to come around again back on to the A217. He had his foot hanging off and wouldn’t be able to do any engine braking at all!!
One thing to add to PJ’s push your opposite elbow into the corner, turning right, push your left shoulder forward. And I agree with TimR’s comments! but at least you were in a car park…
Why would you do that if your turning right?Surely you counter steer into corners so if turning right you would move your right arm forward against the bar? Or have i been doing it wrong all these years:P
