Pedestrian ran into me hit i paniced and left

i was riding up kennington lane just turned onto it from vauxhall. i stopped at the lights went at green pulled away doing 30 along the road keeping an eye out when with 10 meters or so a guy runs across the road see’s me stops in the middle try’s his luck goes to run again then thinks oh bad idea stumbles forward by then im a few feet from him and he smacks straight into my right knee.

i haven’t had anything like this before panicked went past check my mirror saw him moving and shot off home. i didn’t know what to do and went straight home called 999 reported it and went to the station to give my details.

they have cautioned me and said ill have to go court and could get points fine or both. what could happen to me???

I’m guessing they cant do a thing without the other guy coming forward, you could be a compulsive liar as far as they know?

Unless he is found and questioned, how can the police prosecute you for something of which they have no evidence?

Can anyone shed any light?

mate you should have stoped there, got off your bike took off your number plate then run over and snapped his neck to make sure he dont speak:w00t:

only joking, but probably would have been a good idea to stop there tho. was there any cctv cameras on the street where it happened?

he’s in hospital so im sure they are gonna question him about it.

i haven’t got a clue about cameras but will have a look in the morning and check as i would love them to see what happened. there’s no damage to my bike which proves he fell onto me

how do you know he’s in hospital?

if you can get the footage of what happened then thats good, but not stopping even tho not your fault wont help matters much

Personaly if the guy was still walking and not lying in the road id have just cracked on and not even bothered phoning it in. Sensible option would have been to stop, make sure he is okay and then crack on… not forgetting to punch him in the head before you went

:D:hehe::laugh:

Ahh ok if he is in hospital then well, id say you could get in a little trouble. It may not have been your fault but the fact that you left the scene knowing you had hit him id say may get classed as a hit and run… i could be completely wrong and i hope i am

the police at the station said he was in hospital he had called it. it cant be hit and run as he hit into my leg there’s no damage to my bike i just panicked and left as i didn’t know what to do

Bit rusty on this, but the charge is on the lines of “failure to stop after an accident.” Applies to all accidents regardless of blame where there is physical injury to a person or licensed animal. (Not sure what class your pedestrian falls into.)

Used to be straight forward. You would have been guilty by your own admission.

But, and this may be your saving, the police will mostly do nothing that involves copious paperwork these days unless there is a complainant.

The bad news is that you are an easy bust and it gets the clear up rate figures looking good for bu**er all effort.

On balance, go seek some legal advice now so you have representation lined up if the fertilizer fan interface happens.

Are you sure you are uninjured? Not got any stiff joints, bruises? Traumatised?

Doesnt matter the fact that there is no damage to the bike. You yourself has already told the police that you hit him, just because it was with your leg it doesnt make any difference you still hit him and failed to stop.

even tho he ran into you it has to be proven that and riding off dont help but dont worry to much mate as you went to police and reported it. wait see what they say

more likely the fella aint hurt bad but will prob act on it for a pay out:crazy:

Hope you are okay mate, its good of you to report it like that, and i hope they are able to resolve it without going to court.

HH

just tell em your a muslim, you cant speak english too well, and the idiot breached your oomanrights and you will be ok…

i’ll tell mis mad-dog to do that if she is in the same situation:ermm:

how long after the accident did you report it?

Shame you didnt say that he ran out to attack you and you left scared!
I think a lot of people would have done the same - a quick decision that you later regret. Dont worry cos you cant change that now - at least you reported it and did the right thing. I suspect the pedestrian reported it because he/she was annoyed that you didnt stop. If you are lucky he might feel differently knowing that you went home at reported it.
Just get some legal advice and wait for the outcome. Bad luck!

barry barry barry what are we going to do with you eh??? think we need to leave you out on a track;)

At least you reported it as soon as you got home. That’s got to count for something, surely.

I hope it all turns out OK. It must have been a helluva shock.

yeah was a massive shock being as ive never had anything like happen like this before so i made a bad move just got to wait and see nothing i can do about it now.

hmmm track sounds good but lets not rush that

Get some legal advice. If they summons your to court you’ll need to introduce a persuasive defence, this isn’t a biggy so will be heard at a Magistrates court. Magistrates are renowned for their interesting decisions, so you’ve everything to gain by representing yourself as the victim and him as the reckless pedestrian.
