RIP
Let’s hope he’s the only one to die in the race this year
RIP
R.I.P.
Full respect to the Dakar riders as they are all heros in my eyes.
RIP
I think this is outrageous though, the organisers have blood on their hands.
Yes, people get killed racing, accidents happen. But this man took his lid off and went to find shade… he was did not die because he crashed. He died because no rescue came for two days. I have never been stuck in the desert without water but I would imagine it a very slow and horrific way to go.
This is 2008, we have SatNav systems and helicopters. This is terrible tragedy as a result of terrible incompetence.
Oli
I understood the circumstances surrounding his death were still being investigated. Also all Dakar bikes carry at least 3 litres of water.
The organisers say he took shelter with food and water.
I think you may be judging the organisers a little harshly there Oli. He might have died from injuries an hour or two after crashing. There are deaths almost every time they run the race. It is the harshest race in the world through some of the most unforgiving terrain … and people do stray from the way that they should be going. It’s not the first time this has happened, and it won’t be the last.
Maximum respect to the loonies that do this race.
RIP Pascal Terry

RIP
Sad news, but not the first and won’t be the last casualty of this race.
Oli I think you’re being a bit hasty coming down so hard without knowing the facts. Having watched Charlie Boreman’s attempt on this a couple of years ago, it’s plain to see that the organisers take safety very seriously.
RIP Pascal
I’m nearing on Oli’s level of frustration at this. Yes it’s hard, yes the organisers do a great job in the most part, however, have they failed one of their competitors here??
…he activated his emergency beacon 3 days before he was found. The organisers packed in the search as they heard he was back in camp and can’t of checked.
Now i don’t know the full story…or even most of it. It doesn’t look good though
RIP
However the dude died its a real shame, he was doing a sport that most of us on here love to bits, and was taking part in probably the greatest race in the world,
BIG RESPECT TO HIM RIP.
RIP Sad news
