Parking ticket..

Got a ****ing parkign ticket last night…arrgh, was in Kensington and Chelsea and parked in a residents bay, cos I thought that bikes are allowed in them. Anyone know about the regulations?

Velcro number plate…need that…

Sorry to hear that mate. K&C as far as I know require all vehicles using a residents bay to have a permit - even bikes. Indeed there was / is a plan to introduce resident only bike bays too.

There is info on there website and this includes a comprehensive list of on street bike bays.

I just wish the rules were consistant across boroughs - it would save all the guess work

Nuts, thought that bikes would be given leeway on this, but should have parked in a bay…smacks wrist for being lazy

but did see this which was interesting re: parking charges:

http://www.rbkc.gov.uk/EnvironmentalServices/Parking/mtorcycleparking_review.asp

Yes. This was raised by Mini Mo and it surfaced at the time Westminster first announced about their charges. I think he’s got some info on it.

If you use the bays in K&C make sure they aren’t resident only

Yeah - noted, they said spring 2007 they are rolling this out, but havent seen any yet…but will keep my eyes peeled…

it looks like you have to pay i think

i found this for you if any good

http://www.parkingforbikes.com/boroughs/kensington_chelsea

what a f****** you dont have to get a permit in brent

Did you see that traffic warden programme last night. Full of ways they’d book you even if you weren’t in the wrong. I’ve been told to always appeal on a parking ticket coz chances are you can get let off.

…and NO i still haven’t had my little letter of 3 points come in yet

Charlie said an old courier trick was to show you had broken down then they can’t fine you. Send him a PM.

I received a ticket aswell in central London.

Carefull with K&C. You can park in residents bays after hours, however the hours are inconsistant. Some bays are 10pm and others are 6:30pm I believe. I lived there for years and used to get loads of tickets.

Yeah gonna have to pay, nuts…

yeah I got a ticked in Kensington and Chelsea too, its bike bays only at daytime…

Heh not only in the daytime, I got this one at 8pm!

I would ask anyone who does pay for a parking place for their bike becasue of this new amendment to the law to use up as much room as possible when parking. From RBK&C In addition, motorcycles parked parallel to the kerb, do not make best use of the space available. I would also ask you NOT to use the free motorbike parking bays and leave these for friends on bikes visiting mates (unless you need to lock your bike to something which is on offer). I don’t think it is law that we have to park with our bike going across the traffic? (i.e. east west and not north south). If we don’t then I’d park and use up as much room as possible. This will be the only way the council will move to changing back the amendment. The more local people make complaints about motorbikes taking up almost the same room as a car the more chance of a change coming about.

Also have a look at you local rag (newspaper). Our one was talking about an increase from £50-£100 to £60-£120

And to those people who say “you should not have broken the law” A SLOW CANCER DEATH TO YOU!!! Yes I have had tickets and yes it #ucks me off when those twits say things like that Funny how the council have people to find parked cars/bikes to ticket (still waiting on the numbers of deaths linked to parking to work out why it is more than speeding). Would the council spend time trying to find a stolen bike/car not an f/ing chance! No money in that! Leave things that don’t make money to the police.

I got one in Camden the other week for parking in a loading/unloading 20 mins bay… Still awaiting the response from my “shove it up ya a$$” letter

If you can get a receipt the same day or the day after for a part that is essential to the bike to make it work you will be able to send this off and they will wave the fine. You can then say you broke down.

This is worth it if you can find something that doesn’t cost too much, such as some kind of electrical component.

Bike parking should be free no matter where we are. We don’t cause congestion or pollution so it would encourage the masses to be more environmentally friendly.

Best of luck.

Top tip

you can park on single yellow lines after 6.30/ 10.30 weekdays & weekends. not sure which way round. plus their are quite a few bike bays but theses are alway full.

in chelsea the best way around this (which i do) park the bike in the hospital car park. its free & safer. ive left mine in their for 5 days before without any trouble.

You still have to be double careful on single yellows.

Some boroughs operate their own parking restrictions. Bromley don’t let you park on Sundays on single yellows in some parts of the borugh. They reckon they sign post on entrances to the zone and on lamposts but they don’t. I know people who have been caught out and they don’t win their appeals either even though the nearest sign is 1/2 mile away!

You are right, its a minefield out there.

Just as a nice icing on the cake, got another PCN yesterday from Camden for driving down pancras way at 08:11am… double nuts… a quarter of my monthly cash gone on PCN’s…
