Right, so i live in an area with no bike bays, i have to leave it on the street, but just spoke to council and they said that if i park it on footpath, chained to lampost, ill get a ticket, but if i park it on road, theres nothing to chain it too, and it will get nicked!!!

ur best bet then is get in touch wit local council an c if u can get a garage bud
There is a new paragraph in the latest edition of the Highway Code that is specific to parking on the Pavement in London…244You MUST NOT park partially or wholly on the pavement in London, and should not do so elsewhere unless signs permit it. Parking on the pavement can obstruct and seriously inconvenience pedestrians, people in wheelchairs or with visual impairments and people with prams or pushchairs.
[Law GL(GP)A sect 15]
Look on the bright side Steve, I’ve got a nice back-garden… So, I’m alright!!!:w00t:;)
I take it you couldn’t find anyone on here with space near you then mucker?
See you tonight at the BMM
RR
Can you make a ramp or modify the step?
even if i made a ramp, the path aint wide enough to get a run at it, and its such a small front yard its debatable whether i could turn it 90degres when i get it in…
I think that if you cover your reg plate when it is parked on the pavement that it is actually illegal for wardens to remove it (whatever is covering the reg plate), so as to put your details on the ticket.
under the Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994 it is an offence to either fail to display a vehicle excise duty disc or obscure a vehicle’s registration number (VRN)

so i would be very careful when parking ![]()
As far as I understand it, it’s illegal for the parking people to remove whatever you cover your plate with, but the police can order the bike to be taken away. I wouldn’t do it.
Can’t you park it on the road and get a big enough chain to chain your rear wheel to a lamp post? That’s what I did before I got the garage.
im inconsiderate i park on the pavement fu.ck them
last time i parked on the road some twat knocked my bike over with his car and left it laying in the road.
get a clip on numberplate take your tax disk and chain the bike up that what i say:D
driesie the legislation has changed - also see my previous post.
i agree with you though to just buy a longer chain
Surely if you take your number plate and tax disc off then how are they ever going to know who it belongs to? They cant issue a ticket, they cant warn you etc etc and if they should take it away then how could they guarantee that they had given the correct bike back?
“Yes officer - its the one with the reg errmmmmmmmmm…”
I personally would be tempted to give it a try! Or do as I’m going to do when I move to my next flat - I’ve already scouted the site and i’m going to fix a small ground anchor to the kerbstone - anyone says anything it was there already!!!
As far as I understand, the police could order it being taken away as it’s illegal to have an untaxed vehicle on the road, whether you’re driving it or not.
VIN number ?
Yes the typically cunty London authorities will gleefully do you for anything they can, given the totally unscrupulous winkers they employ to do the dirty work for them (such as NCP etc) you need to be vigilent.
Personally I park on pavement outside house all the time, have done for the last 5 years but then I live out near Heathrow so parking isn’t so strictly enforced.
It’s all a money making system really. Issue a ticket for an instant fifty quid into the council’s coffers, couldn’t be sweeter or easier for the barstewards.
i see exactly where you are coming from…and i would agree with you ![]()
BUT!
the risk is that the Police take it away … as they did with vehicles around my area. They checked for tax discs, number plates and VIN and off they go, a council truck comes along and impound the vehicles…with the risk of being destroyed…
I used to park my last Busa on the pavement where I could see it where I worked, with approval of the local Traffic Wardens
They told me they would be laughed at if they ticketed me
One day I got a ticket as their boss told 'em to ticket for pavement parking from now on
When I appealed I was told tuff and I was lucky for the previous two years they let me off :pinch:
I won’t do it again
The head of parking enforcement in the L B I work for is a very nice lady* and most of the wardens are pretty decent. I used to share a building with them.
They dislike this stuff and just want to get on with the main stream work of controlling on street parking and nicking un-taxed (and therefor un-insured) vehicles.
Unfortunately, they’re victims of directives on this s**t.
Oldguy.
*The head of parking lady was the one that paid for a chain rail for motorcycles in one of our car parks at my suggestion, and moved the spaces next to the control booth for better watching.
