Parking bike up for couple of months

Apologies for the amateurish question but go easy - I’ve only been riding for 8 months.

I’ve got some problems with my throttle wrist and it’s now been splinted so I have been told I can’t ride for 6 weeks :angry:
I rode today from the hospital to work and it was fine, and need to ride back tonight, but after that I’ll be parking her up :angry:

So if I’m gonna be parking up the bike for minimum 6 weeks what do I need to do?

Battery out or better to just turn her over every week?
Will i need to drain the fuel?

Anything else, apart for having to learn the vagaries of London public transport and it taking hours to get anywhere.

If you can still turn it over then do so once a week to keep things going. I would also recomend spraying a good quality preservative spray over the bike (Wurth etc) to stop corrosion, just remember to take it off before you ride it again as a bit on your disks will make stopping interesting.

Mine hadnt turned a wheel for 6 weeks up until this week as I was in a similar situation to you - I started it up after 3 weeks and sprayed all the metal parts with WD40 as it was all quite damp from sitting outside under a cover & after I let the engine run for about 10 mins, turned it off and covered it up & started it once a week there after. Gave it a wash, cleaned & lubed the chain and took it for a ride today and it goes fine - no probs :cool:

if bike is inside, ie in reaasonably dry garage…you need do f all for a 6 week lay off…if its outside…all of the above…poor little bike…:smiley:
