I have been taking the plate off my bike when parking in Westminster (and the tax disc too) and I have not had any ticket so far (I leave the bike parked all day while at work). I have been parking my bike in bays around my work and when I come back to my bike, I see the majority of the bikes with a ticket except mine! It works brilliantly. The other day, I saw the parking attendant around ticketing bikes and left mine. I waited for him to leave before riding away! Why don’t you all do the same, get velcro plates and park for free! F**k off Westminster!
I put the tax and plate back on before riding away. So on the roads, I’m all legal. How would they give a ticket to a bike that is parked with no registration?
VIN or just clock you with CCTV when you leave. Even when your parked your still on the public highway so your breaking the law not displaying a valid tax disc.
Council may also do you for avoiding parking charges.
I understand why you’re doing what you’re doing, but speaking from a clear perspective on how traffic enforcement works, I can say that you run the risk of your bike being impounded and having to pay ridiculous fees to have it released.
It is an offence to have a vehicle on the public highway without showing a valid tax disc, and it is common for these vehicles to be towed away.
You will not know whether your bike has been stolen either as even if you had a plate on it, there is no obligation for a council to immediately contact you and tell you they have your vehicle. The onus is on the registered keeper to locate it.
Continue at your peril, but I would just park in another borough if the boundary and parking spaces aren’t too far from where you work.
Sorry if that’s all a bit bourgeois and not rebellious biker…Would like to see what your antics would achieve on a wider scale though
Wrong. I understand, it’s illegal to not show a tax disk or plate on the public road. Council parking bays include that.
So your right, the parking attendants can’t fine you, but the police or DVLA can tow it.
So there you have it…
Do it at your choice but accept the penalties if and when they do act on your bike and tow it away.
I believe its £250 to retrieve a vehicle from the pound and £25 per day… oh yes plus the fine for not displaying tax etc…
I have just registered my bike in westminster today, I live here in westminster and really don’t enjoy having to pay for something in my area. But them are the rules. I guess if I don’t really like it I will move away to somewhere when it does not affect me.
Maybe you could cut back on something else that you don’t need to cover the cost of 1.50…
I’m surprised you don’t do the bilking thing and get your petrol for free too (huge amounts of friendly sarcasm here fella)
:P:P
But yeah in short feck Westminster, unless they supply some decent security, so I can leave my gixer in a parking bay safely chained to secure parking furniture.
good luck to you buddy if you get away with it. IMO though, it will only end in tears. Also, you are aware there are a few rozzers on this forum who work Westminster? maybe not the brightest of ideas to publicly declare what you are doing…shandoPS. hey phantomgoxxer, where in westminster are you? I’m also in the borough, up in St Johns Wood.
Just spoken to a ‘friend’ about this and he tells me if ‘they’ find a untaxed and unidentified vehcle in central london ‘they’ will attempt to identifiy it by any means possible before it it removed - or possibly dismantled by controled explosion.
I’ve heard that by digging a big hole, jumping in and quickly backfilling it you can successfully evade the parking police…fortunately there’s always some fellow LB’ers on hand to help dig you out!
Not necessarily guaranteed to work - but if pinched for not displaying a tax disc or plate while it was parked, you could always claim they were stolen.
Sounds a bit different when its put the way it really is: £150 per year…
The same as most people’s insurance.
Twice as much as most people’s residents parking permit.
Now, I wouldnt necessarily mind paying that money if the security they promised actually exists. But it doesnt.
this is the problem with this country , people just get shafted by the govenment , pay up when asked ( you all know who you are ) and they just carry on charging more and more , becuse they CAN get away with it i think there was a post a while back that fell on deaf ears about protesting this charge and no one did anything
just pay and pay and pay …and don’t bother to fight …the english way so how is this done on a road side basis ?put your reg number in the machine ?? or on line , or by phone ??any way it’s done the govenment now has a way of finding out where you park your bike everyday , they have done it with these “overlane” cameras for other vehicles for a while now , trust me they know where you are at any time while your on the road , a friend of mine owns a courier company near canterbury and he couldn’t get hold of one of the drivers a few months back , he was lying about where he was basiclly , and he phoned the police and they told him where he was at a particular time and caught him out , they know ! …and now they can do it with bikes too …be warned
