As i bike everywhere cos I’m an anti public transport supporter.
Can you get a weekly “bus pass” for them, all I can see on the usless site is train travel cards.
I hate buses and tubes/trains too… well it’s more the experience of the journey that I hate. More to the point - I hate the other passengers! And the drivers! I remember the forst time i had an oyster card something went wrong and I went to complain to someone in a tube station. They printed out a long list of all the journeys I’d been on that day and I thought “those bastards know EXACTLY where I have been”. Paranoia!
You can get by with a one-day or weekly ‘normal’ bus pass which works perfectly well, without having to get an oyster. It’s the cost of freedom - peace of mind.
I use mine in a simple pay-as-you-go sense. I just add a tenner every now and then. For me, door to door from home to work on the bus is really simple and means I don’t have to wash the bike down every day from all this crap on the roads! Having my bike nicked before Christmas (thank-you, scum) kinda necessitated an Oyster card.
I’m glad I’ve got one now, makes life a lot easier when getting tubes for nights out and the like.

just working it out, as my other half has to get the bus to school and is currently going through about £3.50 a day, so thought a weekly would be better but was not sure if I could get one for her oyster card or not.
You can’t get bus passes online, you have to buy it at a station from the annoying dude behind the desk, cause you can’t even get them from the ticket machine. They do load it on to your oyster though
I’m so over public transport after my tube line was closed this morning due to “a person falling ill”. Can’t wait for pay-day so I can buy a bike

In the hope of saving you a long walk … you don’t actually have to go to the station … a lot of newsagents have oyster card top up and you can buy a bus pass from there too …
Our lass only discovered this while standing behind someone in the shop (across the road from our house) getting one after a few months of walking to the nearest tube station (10 mins each way) :hehe:
yer just take it ur local shop that does it and top it up a week i no it sucks my bikes been off the road to long now roll on saturday!!!:D:D:D:D bloody tfl!
Think fares are cheaper if you pay by oyster too. I always have a pay-as-you-go oyster topped up. Comes in handy

If you don’t like the thought of being tracked around London, buy an Oyster card but don’t register it.
O.K., if your lose it, you’ve lost your money but so what? Just keep it with just a few quid on it.
Maybe it’s a character defect, but I object to “them” (and I don’t know who they are) being able to track me around my own friggin town through some simple pay and go system.

If you register your Oyster card you can arrange to have it automatically topped up so that you never run out of credit (unless your bank account is empty). That works pretty well. Another advantage of registering your Oyster card is that if you loose it you can contact TFL and they will transfer any balance or season tickets to a new card and cancel the old one. As an integrated public transport system it works very well.
I am not concerned about people tracking me as I don’t do anything interesting and I don’t commit crime.
Well the handy thing for me, is the closest shop that does oyster is actually right next to our train station which is at the bottom of the road…

Sleeper - if your OH is currently paying cash for bus travel, it’s definitely worth getting an Oyster card and loading Pay as You Go credit onto it - the cash fare is £2 per trip compared to only £1 if using Oyster.
Depending on the number of journeys they make, this option may work out cheaper than a weekly bus pass (at £13.80).
HTH if you need any further info - for my sins I work at TfL and spend vast amounts of my time trying to persuade the powers that be not to make all the ticket stuff so damn complicated for us mere mortals to figure out!
thanks for this, she is currently using a oyster pay-as-you-go, but wanted to see if it was cheaper to by a weekly travel card than payg.think she is spending about £4 a day at the moment on the buses with her oyster (has to make 4 journeys)
