Over the limit?

No, not the alcohol limit - I don’t drink and ride or drive, ever, just my thing.

My bike is currently on about 485 miles. It’s due for its first 600 mile service on Friday. Tomorrow, I need to go about 150 miles round trip. Tonight I plan to do about 50 miles, from my house down to BM then to BH and home. So that would put me at 685 miles on Friday, probably closer to 700 (have to get to the dealership too!).

How strict are manufacturers in general (and Suzuki in particular) about bike servicing within the mileage limits? What is the effect on the warranty? Is anything over acceptable? Is there a soft or hard limit? Perhaps I should skip BM/BH today, 650 miles is probably more reasonable than 700 miles for the 600 mile service? (Tomorrow’s trip is not optional). Perhaps I should look for a Suzuki dealer near where I’m going tomorrow and do the service there? Thoughts?

Phoned the dealership, waiting on a call back which will tell me how far over I can go…

I think you should be alright (but others will probably know more). I was over by 100 on my 600 mile service for Honda. For mine it was only an oil change and then checks/lubrication for the rest, the next service is then some several thousand miles away (4,000 I think). However, if I was doing it by the book, I should have had the 4,000 mile service because of the age of the bike as it had sat inside a showroom for 1 year as a demonstrator. The service book says miles or time, whichever comes first. But the dealer was fine.

From the searching I did last week, you should be okay. I went to 8,700 miles before it got serviced.

Unless any fault can be specifically blamed on a late service, they should honour your warranty is the theme I was picking up.

Will be interested to hear what the dealer says though.

8700 before your first service? are you sure! :w00t:

Its only an oil change and a check to make sure nothing is gonna fall off … I should think . Not much they can claim was neglected for so long as to cause any major failures .

So in the end I called another dealership who said as long as it’s less than 100 miles over they have no problem with it. So I went to BM and BH

Well, technically it was the first time I took it for a service, yes :stuck_out_tongue: Third service for the bike though

Probably best you didn’t come Oakdene with us. I think I clocked around 80 miles from the Tea Hut!
