I was invited to join a group on facebook about this story. I think its absaloutley outrageous how forces personnel get treated here in the UK, and i dont see that im being biased cause im in the army myself.
US troops get 75% off in alot of places in america and there are loved by their country, if british troops go to the US we get 50% off in the same places and they love us too. As you’ll see from this news story we seem to be lucky to get a room in a hotel over here.
thats nothing new mate, been happening for years even back in 70/80’s when I was in people turned their nose up if you wandered in somewhere in uniform
Terrible. There was an article in the paper about a squaddie coming home on the train. In uniform. Had a travel warrant. Hadn’t had time to go to the barracks to get his ID card and he was asked to pay full fare as he did have ID to back up the travel warrant. They made him get off the train at the next station.
What jobs worth 4rseholes these people are.

The only think that p1sses me off with them is when they are roaring drunk, can hardly stand and they think that cos they have done a tour they can come in to the clubs, and being barely able to stand is ok. If you are sober or appear so then fine, but if you are falling over…No! Same as everyone else!

some of these bans resulted from the behaviour of large groups of squaddies. same way lots of hotels ban stag groups. Of course this was one individual and shouldnt have taken place but I see no problem in stopping large grops of males army or not …I have seen the damage they can do.
Im glad to see you put males army or not at the bottom there rather than just army. We are like any other group of lads you get pissed have a laugh and sometimes things get out of hand. Im not condoning bad behaviour but it doesnt mean that just because your a squaddy it means your gona act up. Most lads and even some lasses do especialy when there pissed, you cant tar everyone with the same brush.
Anyway as you say this shouldnt of happened as it was only one person and like it says in the report think of the uproar there would have been if it was someone from an ethnic background, im sure it would be plastered everywhere and many more people would be disgusted by it but no its only a squaddie who serves the country so who cares?
I can remember when I was getting mine in back in the 70s that many of the local pubs in Aldershot, Farnborough, Guildford had a ban on squaddies - not for any sinister political reasons but just because so many before us had got rat-arsed and started trouble. I remember it mostly as good-natured trouble though! But the ‘bans’ only lasted long enough for the places to be empty on a couple of nights and then we were welcome again. Kudos to whoever posted the Kipling extract - That’s exactly the quote I’ve been using to people who have expressed the view that this ‘anti-soldier’ sentiment in certain quarters is a new thing.
Bad that. On the other hand, the locals to some of the bases have been pretty supportive - my cousin lives in Odiham by the wokka base, ended up reluctantly having a pint with a very drunk pilot recently who turned out to have been decorated for heroism in Afghanistan. He was very moved by it all when he got the full story; the guy made no claims to have been doing other than “staying alive” and made no mention of his valour.
If this is the hotel near the bar where I play im going to get everyone to **** on the windows outside this weekend, squaddies are no different to normal people drunk or not that is total BS
