Other bikers actions - this worries me

Like in a previous thread it worries me seeing bikers wearing trainers, trackies, non-biking jackets in traffic…

Another thing that worries me is valuable, lustworthy bikes parked unsecured.

Was in Kingston today and after switching my alarm and immob on. Almaxing bike to post AND putting on disk lock i walked passed a beautiful '10 Blade, no chain, no disk log just the steering lock (easily smashed) and the alarm (easily silenced) stopping two scrotes on a scootah from taking it and pushing it away - not to mention Mr White Van man.

Dunno how the owner can walk away from it and confidently expect to see it again…:ermm:

I worry on their behalf everytime I see this sort of thing,

I hear you mate!!! I’m scared for others far to often!

park next to them, more likely to see your bike again…:Whistling:

That’s a good thing about owning a NC700s as no one wants to nick it

But you have more chance of your bike being “ordered” as there fairly rare army they?

Course they do!

The number of times I have heard “I never put a chain on it because nobody would want to nick it” (usually about ratty 15 year old ratbikes) and then one day it disappears…

Your NC700 is a target if it looks easy - scrotes will do it for practice (anyway it’s a decent bike).

Yeah I know and I have a whole bunch of security items as well as a ground anchor. I do not go anywhere without an alarmed disk lock and carry a chain when need arises. These wont stop the bike being nicked by a pro but do keep the opportunists away.

S’right - I had my bucket of shite old bike in the garden where it could be seen by overlooking houses - with no lock on and someone had a go at nicking it.

They must have thought “it’s nickable - let’s nick it!”

I one hundred percent agree. I think before anyone is allowed out of the house, let alone allowed to purchase a vehicle, they should be forced to sign the following:

I agree, before purchasing a bike, that I will always wear a full leather one piece suit and / or the best quality Gortex textiles, with boots, gloves and a lid at all times. I will never wear jeans, a jacket more than 5 years old and a helmet that costs less than £350.89  If I do choose to ride in Levis or a bikini, I will wear a placard round my neck stating ‘I AM A LIABILITY’ with a flashing vest as a warning to others.

I agree never to leave my bike unlocked in any location ever (particularly in Blackheath on a Wednesday when there are too many ne’er do wells prowling around drinking tea).

I will never go more than 30 mph, except on the motorway when I promise never to do more than 65 mph.

I promise, if I choose to leave my home without a bodyguard, never to do the following: Drink more than 3 units of alcohol (liver disease is a drain on the NHS), smoke, ride a push bike, go skiing or mountaineering or snowboarding or horseriding or indulge in ANY dangerous pursuits. If you happen to see me on holiday in Thailand on a scooter in shorts, or surfing off the coast of Brighton in November, you have full permission to come up to me and give me a clip round the ear

I might set up a monitoring station at the LB Xmas bash, to ensure everyone sticks to their daily units

Righty ho - enough from me :stuck_out_tongue:

I suppose my point with the above jokey comment, is that we might not agree with others actions - yet there are many risks in life. If we choose to legislate against all risk, then we remove freedom of choice from the individual.

Riding a bike is an individual choice, as is wearing the ‘correct’ gear. If we choose not to do so that is our responsibility and not others. The NHS argument also does not wash as the NHS spends much of its time dealing with poor or risky lifestyle choices.

…but what as the NHS got to do with someone nicking your bike…

…are a bunch of nurses doing it???:w00t::hehe::laugh:

Hahaha, Hels you crack me up!

When I see someone riding in a suit I always have a giggle to myself because it looks ridiculous! Im all for taking calculated risks but there’s no need to look like a tool while youre doing it!

I parked my bike outside In moto all morning and it didn’t get nicked once…

wow! I’m impressed!

Worse!

I left my bike outside all night with a disk lock on…

and the keys in the ignition! With the disk lock key on the fob as well!

Only noticed when I got up the next morning and picked up my house keys and then started to search for the bike keys …panic when I realised what I’d done. :crying:

Ran outside in my dressing gown fearing the worst - only to see my bike was still there = phew!

Lucky lucky lucky!

Mind you this was 1997 and they hadn’t invented scrotes on scootahs then…:hehe:

i dont park mine out of my eyesight, I don’t want to have hurt someone to stop them nicking it

I won’t say it worries me, because if people are stupid enough to do this the it’s their life they are risking. I see it nearly every day in the Strand Underpass. Bikers squeezing past buses in the tunnel, usually undertaking. FFS - you aren’t saving any time, we will both be stuck at the next set of lights.

EXACTLY right.

I reckon the only people who leave expensive new bikes without proper security are people who have yet to have a bike nicked.

I saw a new 1199 Panigale recently in a public parking bay with just a crappy disc lock for security.

And you’ll have plenty of room to stand and remove your lock after their bike has been nicked…
