Opinion for a new bike

Hello fellas!
I’m working really hard to find a garage
(btw I live in Islington N7, if anyone wants to share let me know)
As soon as I find it I’d like to get a new bike…
I have a Monster 695, love the look, the sound and the attitude but I’m looking for something “smoother”!!!
It should be a used bike and I prioritise comfort, agility and reliability!
Ideally nothing more than a 750cc!
I demand breathtaking acceleration rather than high speed!
It would be used for town riding on a daily basis, ride-out once or twice a week covering max 60m, but definitely not for touring.

I’m chasing a Street Triple at the moment; I haven’t ridden one yet but it seems to be wicked!
Which are its cons???

Do you recommend any competitor?
I massively like the new Monster 696 or 796 as well, they say it’s nothing to do with the old Monsters!
What about the Hornet?
I’m sure they all are pretty bikes so I’d like you to focus on the negative points (including nickability)

please

Honda CB1000R

Tough one, the Triple has more torque than the Hornet but it’s suspension is crap for commuting through town in comparison, excellent on smooth tarmac though. The Hornet has a grin-inducing power band high up the revs, better MPG and softer suspension but pretty tame low down. Both bikes are great for a weekend blast, the Hornet feels more frantic and needs to be thrashed more but this just adds to the fun. Might be worth paying a bit more for the Triple R which has adjustable suspension, not sure how good it is though. Triple is definately more of a target for thieves.
CB1000R would fulfil your need for acceleration but maybe not Honda’s most reliable bike and not a 750 or less.

buy an old shape hornet (05) updgrade brakes and suspension and you will have a couple grand left over what you would have paid for a new str3

then you have a bike just as good (and better looking) but is less nickable and will suprise sportsbikes in the twisties

there have been loads of post recently regarding str3 V Hornet V Fazer V SV etc etc just testride and buy what you want

Hornets are sweet loads of fun

Saw this one on gumtree. Looks genuine and fooking cheap man

http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/09-honda-hornet-beautiful-condition-8000miles-only-2-owners/90289616

a detuned fireblade engine with a cbf head, I have been reasearching these lately and not come across anything to suggest reliability problems. What info you got that I don’t know yet?

Kwak z750 is a good option… and you can pick one up relatively cheap

the triple,hornet & GSR750 are better

Aprilla Shiver, BMW F800R, Triumph Street Triple R.

After a Duc do you really want to go for Jap toys? (dont feed the trolololol :stuck_out_tongue: )

Thats just sexual would love to get one

Bloody hell I’m so gutted… this is what happened today:
at one point I had to slow down and when I pushed the break pedal lever down, guess what?
Nothing happened, the rear break is gone! luckily I wasn’t speeding!
I’ve owned this bike for 3 months, enough to understand that it’s not for me…
By the way, any tips on how I should sell it?
If I do it through a dealer?
I don’t even know where to start…
I’m desperate :frowning:

How much do you want for it ? I always have room for more at the right price … Piccys ??

italian Is the way to stay onece you have had one

So you mean I should go for the new Monster?

I don’t know, it is kind of difficult to have both comfortand acceleration because blistering acceleration is more your sports bike andcomfort, well that is your slow slugging touring bike.

Trial bikes tend to have low gear ratios, so have fast fromstanding still acceleration. Tall too so have that form of comfort, andprobably well suited for the congested roads in the London area? Or you might go two stroke racer250cc and up. They’ll go like a bat out of hell from the traffic lights, butyou’ll lose that comfort as a price.

But if you go out of Londonmegamile cruising, neither of those bikes will be best suited.

Yeah, I know I’ve been fussy… let’s make it easy and fun!

Among:

Ducati Monster 696
Honda Hornet
Street Triple

Which one:

  1. is the best in the traffic (steering angle, grip, breaks, suspensions, response, clutch…)?
  2. has the most upright riding position (quite often I ride with pillion)?
  3. is less vibey?
  4. requires less maintainance?
  5. is the less nickable?
  6. is the quickest at the traffic lights? …because I’d like to win

Being quick of the line getting the first 10 - 20 yards is all in launch control practise and less to do with bike power . If your good anyone of those bikes will beat anyone who is not so good .

If u try to sell it to a dealer u can also give it away to someone for free
When i have sold my bikes in the past i have always advertised them on gumtree and ebay, got quite a bit of phonecalls and never took longer then two weeks the sell them.

As for choosing a new bike for London commuting there is only one answer. Get a proper bike, get a SM!
-most of the power in low-mid range - never a problem to pull a wheelie of the lights

-huge steering lock - makes it easy to lock up the rear tyre and slide ur back aroung cars

-sticky tyres - for doing 50mph on a roundabout where u would normally do 30mph

-offroad capabillities - for when u get stack in traffic and cant filter anymore, u just ride it on a pavement or grass on the side of the road

-very loud exhaust - so everyone knows u are comming through
