coming around a very very dry roundabout, no sign of any problems. tyres warm and now going fast about 25-30mph, turned her in on the bend and out she slides, nah its a one off I thought, cant be anything so down I go again but this time the back wheel keeps going and I find myself riding fresh air and sliding ignominiously down the road…mind you I was really down…on my slider at the time of her letting go so I didnt have far to fall I was already on the road…
Bike damaged starter case cover and drive mechanism cover…one of the panels fooked and the rear hanger broken clip on bent and break lever broken…most damage done when it went backwards at slow speed onto a small grass bank at the side of the road, ripped the exhaust bracket off…but otherwise nothing much else…
Will contact the council on monday just to tell then how slippy the road was and is…looks like a car had gone off within the past 12 hours in exactly the same spot as the grass was dug up where it had left the road…
Feel that even though the road was very very slippy I should have let up once she slid the first time…just didnt think it was the road…and was just a hicough or something…silly me…had the warning chose to ignore it…
bloody hell mate, thats a bummer but at least your ok thats what counts, have a word with cops if a crash has happened there recently the council might be to blame, long shot but worth a try.
A32 roundabout, before four marks. I do this one every day and its my knee down roundabout…so you can understand my suprise when it tipped me off…I will contact the council for sure and bikers will be using it as it is the route from the a339 to the a32…I am mortally wounded, it is the first off when I can actually say it was not my fault and it makes you think hard…the road was just so slippery…but it was totally dry…no oil but it had a sheen about it…like it was covered in a matt finish coating of something really slippery…very odd…looked like it was salt…
it is clear another car had been off the road already…at slow speed too…
That’s such a shame to see that bike looking like that, but I’m going to say it as someone has to and eveyone else is thinking it…
What were you doing with you’re knee down on a very cold Feb day? The gritters were out in force yesterday and there was ice this morning. Surely you were asking for trouble? It’s not really the time of year to have the bike cranked over.
Atleast you’re in one piece and the bike easily reparable.
Sorry, was that a little blunt? Don’t mean to be harsh, was more to remind everyone reading it that the roads still aren’t really warm enough yet and to keep it sensible for another month or so.
Its too cold out, my pilots are not warming up enough, front feels skittish if i push it.
strokes…mate i feel for ya, was you going for a KD, or did you just not realise how far over you was? saying that its your KD rounabout isnt it? a bit over confident maybe? maybe there was something on the road surface maybe it was just too cold, lesson learned tho aye!
That was my first thought as it just washed from under me, without power on or anything…but no the tyres were warm and I was not that far over, I was just hanging off, not laying the bike over…so it should have been safer with the slippery surface…
So no it was not the cold the roundabout was in full sun and had been for a good few hours and the road was bone dry but very very slippery…
