Im still seething about this. Parked my Bandit in a supermarket carpark only to come back and find some 8 year old kid trapped underneath it and his father desperately trying to lift the bike off him.
Why do these idiots do this??? The father got right stroppy with me for letting my bike fall on his kid too…!!!
The upshot is a broken clutch lever and left side indicators. Got off pretty lightly but now struggling to find somewhere to get replacements! Well, the clutch lever and front left indicator aren’t too difficult, but can I get a rear left indicator??? It probably oesn’t help that I have a Nonfango carry rack on the the bike I guess…
Wouldnt have kept my temper if that was my bike !!! what a damn cheek…the guy should have been the one trapped, not the kid…not a bluddy clue these people!
Now YOU are the one left with the bits to sort out again, whereas, before u parked up, you didnt have to !!!
Who the hell do they think they are to just come and grab someones parked bike, whos not even there to say bugger off !!! Wonder how he would feel if someone plonked their kid on the bonnet of their car, then when it slid off and hurt itself, come and complain to the car owner !!! F…madness…cor, this world and the non-entities living in it, never fail to amaze me…(does that feeling come with age?..dont know, just know the older u get the more u dont have time for pond life we have to live with)
Yeah, spoke to plod in case the damage was more serious that it first looked and I needed to claim on insurance. Won’t come to that, probably wont be more than 30 notes or so but did get the guys details and plod reckoned he should be the one to pay and they’d do the liaison. Have to be honest, I was extremely surprised at THAT!
Yeah, the kid was ok. Which when it comes down to is probably the most important thing. Pretty sure it wont go near another motorcycle for a while - which is good and bad, I guess.
You shouldnt be surprised, you have every right to get bike back to how it was when u parked it !! Hope u get it sorted…god, im still sitting here thinking what the hells going on out there !!!
Although this is a bit of a wake up call for us, think about it! a supermarket nr me, tesco at old kent road, i dont use it much but when i do i notice that the motorbikes park nr the shopping trolley bit nr the entrance of said supermarket, now i aint got a prob with that but i reckon you will have no leg to stand on if it was knocoked over in any way and like this post on top of a kid. So all i am saying make sur ya park it in right place or even in a car space. the tesco’s i mention have a bike park bit too. If bike is parkd in the correct place then the kid/whoever would have no reason to be there.
Have to admit I have no idea whether I left it in gear or not, usually do and it is in gear now as had to get it lifted. (clutch lever broken, in gear, so no pushing…)
Not having a go or anythin, just wondering - How would leaving the bike in gear have stoped a kid from toppling a bike sideways?
Glad the kids ok, shame about the broken bits tho - i know how pissed off i was wen someone parked up against my bandit, scratched the screen and fairing, then pissed off before i came back!
Well, what Stu SV is suggesting might have happened is that the kids father has stuck the kid on the back, the bike has somehow been rolled/pushed forward which has pushed it off the stand and its fallen over.
If it had been in gear, which I think it was, it may not have rolled far enough forward to cause the stand to come down. Ergo it wouldn’t have fallen over.
Sounds like kid asked dad if he could sit on bike, dad puts kid on bike and bike falls over. If that was the case I would have asked dad to show me his car and then tap danced on it’s roof. You dont touch other peoples property, some people think that as it’s just a bike it is fair game. I am glad to hear the kid is OK but dad and I would have had a chat, FFS, people have no respect these days.
I had a 6 year old messing about with me bike on the can side, and that can get pretty hot ! He was pushing the gear change and crouching down looking underneath it. I came out and said ‘Oi, don’t do that if the bike falls on yer it’ll hurt’ he quickly stopped and wouldn’t stop starring at me in the chippie
Thank goodness the damage is only cosmetic and the little chap was ok, the dad going off on one is probably guilt for taking his eye off him in the first place or letting him use the bike as a climbing frame …
This is true, and to be fair if they’d asked i’d have had no issue with letting him sit on the back - would have made sure it couldn’t fall - but to just do it is f***ing stupid!!
