Had a couple of PM’s and now a post mention of the tortoise, so a quick update for those interested.
The old girl, no, not the Mrs., the blooming tortoise, came out of hibernation this March/April very sickly so I took her to my local vet. He then sent me to a specialist. That’s a tortoise specialist not a geriatric unit. So, a drive to Ashford, an x ray, blood tests and a pre-packed course of antibiotic injections later and the credit card got a good rinsing.
He reckoned that when she was over whatever was causing her problems she was probably good for another 50 years! That’s better than I am, so I’ve threatened the Jetstreams with leaving it to them in my will.
Odd bit: Everybody asks for the tortoises name. Why would you name a tortoise? It’s not as if they come when you call. Anyway, as they have to fill in that space on their registration forms the tortoise is now officially called “Tortoise”.
Anyway, said animal had a great summer eating Mrs. O’s bedding planks and playing rampaging tank over the young plants in her new garden.
Odd bit 2: Mediterranean tortoises should be kept awake with heat lamps (!) in Autumn and only allowed to hibernate for 6 weeks and the best way to hibernate them is to pop them in the salad drawer of the fridge. Great idea - salmonella is endemic in tortoises!
