Hi Guys,
As a follow on from my original “shall I get a BMW R1200RT ex Police bike” (which came to a resounding no considering the few advantages vs many disadvantages), I am finding that there are some very reasonable prices for R1200RT from 2005.
By the time I want to get one in the next year or so, they will be an even better deal! However, I am thinking of extortionate servicing and parts galore going wrong considering my 2200kms round trips backwards and forwards from France?
Any thoughts? If only we all had unlimited budgets… a GSXR750 and a tourer outside the house would be great
if you want a long distance tourer but with cheaper service/parts costs then I’d say Honda Deauville or Pan European.
If you are near Redbridge I know a chap who services BMW’s very reasonably.
Thanks guys,
Pan European are definitely a good choice, but amazingly they are more expensive at my price range than a BMW R1200RT!!! They hold their price super well!
In relation to the Deauville, no way as it just doesn’t have anywhere near enough ponys.
Redbridge wise, sounds good and near ish where I used to live. However, I am now SW based so a bit of a trek. But as part of IAM there are some good options service wise when I think about it, so might be ok.
I think I just got sidewinded by the R1200RT as there was a red one with inbuilt radio… was thinking how funny that would be in Central London traffic! But then the anger would come at the continuous £500+ services on a 9 year old bike
