Oil dripping out bottom of engine

I haven’t used the Duc for a few weeks and just ran though the pre-flight test. Whilst doing so I noticed oil dripping from the bottom of the engine whilst it was warming up. I stopped the engine an then check the spy glass for few minutes and no oil appeared.

I’m assuming I’ve cracked the sump but not sure what that means.

I’ve got to do 250 miles early tomorrow morning and was wondering whether she’ll make it if I top up the oil. Also how much oil does an engine take?

Thanks,

M

Ooops. The engine should have the capacity stamped on the block somewhere. On Suzuki’s it’s on the clutch cover by the oil cap. 3l/3000ml for my gixxer.

Haven’t you got the manual MM? It should say in there?

Personally I wouldn’t risk it. The crack might get bigger and let go completely with the stress of riding, oil might spray onto the rear wheel and cause you to lose traction and you could even just run dry enough to cause catastrophic engine damage?

Which Duke?

Smart arse.

Try here, but me, I wouldn’t risk it either

Found the problem. Bloody oil filter had come undone

2.5L of oil and a new filter later… fixed. Bret said it just had enough not to kill itself ooops.

Thanks for help guys.

Monster 620. You a fellow Ducatisti?

blimey thats a bit familiar. mine on my 748 came loose at the track day - chufster spotted it and tightened it up. was only dripping a bit tho, so still had enough in.

Yep, Ive had a oil filter work loose on the 749, now i have a jubilee clip around it and lockwire to one of the clutch cover bolts.

Temperamental Italians hey

Love the DIY solution Trigger

Johnny, have you still got your Duc or did you sell it?
